I know your feeling man. It could have been such a banger, but killing this one "mentor" girl right after thr beginning was a major minus for me, the interaction bewtwern her and xiaoqing in asuraville would be quite enticing indees, instead we got a gayish looking dude as romantic interest for xiaoqing...

Whatever, they wanted to release something in 2022 maybe it will be better. I generally enjoyed Nezha New Gods though.

It technically doesnt count as Chinese entertainment, but there is this anime called Ya Boy Kongming! (Paripi Koumei)
Were zhuge liang gets isekai'd into the modern world.

My question is, since japanese have generally a bad view of China, how do they perceive three kingdoms era, ancient China? I mean their whole culture basically was/is Chinese.

And that anime seems to be quite successful for its genre, so a softpower win mayhaps?

I'm aware that Japanese culture is seen in a more positive light because Japan is aligned with the west. China is the opposite (independent big country who pursues its own interests) who leads to anything China-related being seen negatively. However, Japan has done a great job marketing themselves globally since the 1980s. They have pretty much established themselves as a name brand in the animation and videogame sectors. Western govts and media did give Japan a helping hand at first but the ensuing success and popularity of Japanese anime today is more due to their own hard work (creating quality product+marketing). Whereas, Chinese pop culture tried to move into the US in the 1990s/2000s but it never caught on and has already faded by now.

Overall, China is still in the process of developing its own entertainment industry. Need 5-10 more years for it to blossom.

Hong Kong had some limited success in exporting media to the West at one point but it is kind of faded now.
China's media exports are increasing and as Chinese companies continue to grow I think their rise in the global market is inevitable.

Probably. Unfortunately, Chinese culture isn't considered as cool as Japanese culture. So from a business perspective, it's safer to go with JP dub instead of Chinese.

Mihoyo has done a lot promoting Chinese culture in their previous game (Genshin Impact). So no hard feelings here.

IMO developing China's soft power should be a team effort. Can't place all the work onto one person/company. Everyone needs to contribute.
I expect lots of cool Chinese media content coming out in the next 5-10 years. Will be a blast

Three kingdom is popular with young Japanese. They even taught at university I couldn't believe it. Older japanese still have hang up But younger one less so . They were constantly brainwashed by their rabid anti China media. But the younger are internet savvy and a lot of young japanese student, expat, person married to Chinese make all kind of youtube content. Plus Chinese is the 2nd most popular language in Japan and bus load of young Japanese are learning Chinese in China. Time will tell
