The Chinese auto industry is still in its infancy, the dometic market is still extremly fragmented. The cost of chinese cars are dirt cheap by western standards, but overall industry quality is very poor. The Chinese car makers are in the same shoes the Koreans were in 10 years ago and the Japanese 20 years ago.

Most of chinese car manufactories are just built license cars, and the few car makers that had their own design used too many foreign parts. I would say it was a national sin that we do not have a good brand. Nowadays, China car company did brought some bankrupt foreign companies, and there
were talked to buy an engine plant in Brazil to bring it back to China. But for me they should invest more on reserch, instead of thinking they could just buy their way so they could over come their weakness and making more money overnight.

Funnily enough in some respects it's the other way around.

As in many either aspects of "taste", China is behind the US, Europe and Japan by around 10 years or so. I remember when Rover finally packed up (good riddance), someone asked one of the commentators from Top Gear why Shanghai Automotives had bought the rights to Rover cars, when they hadn't really shifted under Rover's leadership. He test drove the Rover 75 and said it was a "good" car, but appealled to a market that didn't exist anymore in European nations and elsewhere. Whereas that kind of design is still very much popular in China amongst the "not-so-rich".

So some of the newer cars are actually not so bad, but just don't have that cutting edge design.

let's see, you can get a car with everything (yes, i mean everything: a/c, automatic window, automatic lock, cd player, nice looking seats, nice looking dash board, etc.) that's quite cheap. the only problems (yes, only 1 problem) is that everything in the car break down fairly often. my dad bought a car last year and after 2 months of driving, first there was this vibrating sound when he accelerates, then the passenger side window got stuck, then the water tank leaked, then the... you get the idea.

still, it was a cool car. and most chinese cars have a smaller engine, so they kinda suck at going up a steep slope.

Hi TUP

I heard that not only domestic cars have problems, but the foreign brand car are not top rate either. Someone told me that the foreign brand built secondary car, and new models will only come years after the models introduted in other countries. Is this true?:)
