Is the Y-8 still produced or have they switched totally to Y-9? I feel like that little bit of extra length gives the Y-9 a lot more flexibility in terms of cargo for probably not much extra cost

I don't think we've seen a Y-8 produced in years.

I recall that the first "Y-8 category III" airframes (basically Y-9 in all but name) produced were for their AEW&C, ELINT/SIGINT aircraft, and for a time Y-8 transports were produced alongside those "cat III" special mission aircraft.
Now Y-9 transports have superseded the Y-8 transports, and the category III airframes I suspect should be Y-9 airframes as well.

agreed Pakistan also got the Y8- Cat III not a Y9 but it looks like a Y9 for all intent and purposes
