I like that last bit in the MFA spokespersons statement:

I will stress again, Hong Kong is China's Hong Kong. Hong Kong matters are Chinese internal affairs. Any outside force attempting to interfere with Hong Kong's affairs are like ants, unaware of their size attempting to shake a tree.
If I were the spokesperson, I would have used "螳螂挡车"/"praying mantis blocking the wheel" instead. We know what happens after the wheel passed.

It looks like China just returns in kind. Right before the Anchorage meeting, the US announced sanctions against China, and Blinken came to the meeting claiming the US was speaking from "a position of strength." This time, the US again announced sanctions against China before/while pushing for a visit to China by Mrs. Sherman. China eventually agreed for the visit to Tianjin, but not Beijing. The US then proclaimed that Sherman would visit China from a "position of strength."

China's response? Announce sanctions against US personnel and entities, and Zhao Lijian said during the regular press that "the US was not speaking from a position of strength in Anchorage, it would even be less so in Tianjin."

At this rate, "from the position of strength" will go down in history as the term of infamy. LOL.
I think the pattern starts from Trump. It plays like this, US kicks China, make it deafeningly loud "I win", China kicks back, all American medias are silence or even go like "China does not kick me, it does not hurt, I am alright". This pattern would repeat over and over again. Trump played this at least three times in his declaration of punishing tariffs. Biden plays twice so far. I think this will go on for the rest of US hegemonic days. What a laughing stock.

No you got it wrong. During the Trump days most American media, which are liberal, would gloat when China kicks back because it makes Trump look impotent and weak. In fact a lot of them make very exaggerated claims about the potency of Chinese retributions to support this point. Only when Biden became president did a veil of muted silence fall over most American media.

yeah, I mistaken Trump's reaction with the MSM's reaction.

China doesn't need the US permission over who would get sanction. And the statement "PRC’s deteriorating economic climate and rising political risk" is so dumb that no one knows what she is talking about. As for Human Rights Watch, it is fully funded by the US and an agent of the US government. Playing innocent is just pathetic.

“These actions are the latest examples of how Beijing punishes private citizens, companies and civil society organizations as a way to send political signals, and further illustrate the PRC’s deteriorating economic climate and rising political risk,” said White House press secretary Jen Psaki in a regular briefing.

“Americans of both parties oppose these outrageous moves to target those who defend universal human rights and fundamental freedoms, and Beijing’s attempt to intimidate and bully internationally respected NGOs only demonstrate its further isolation from the world,” she added, referring to non-governmental organisations.

Every time I’ve sat down with Chinese officials, it’s extremely difficult to get them to understand we’re not part of the US government, even when we give them materials in Chinese in which we criticise the US government,” she said. “Maybe this happened because I happen to be American.

Crap, I actually LOL'd when I saw that. It was one of those really high-pitched hyena laughs that escapes when you weren't ready to see something that hilarious and then you quickly stop and look around to see if anybody heard you because that's not how good people are supposed to sound when they laugh... Anyway, America's saying, "Let us sanction you; don't sanction us back because that just messes up the friendly relationship." OMG, these people are funny; I just don't understand how they can say these things without laughing at themselves.

This people has overactive imagination. Being discrete does not mean insecure of China hold on Tibet. It is probably has more to do with security of Xi entourage. The fact is the flow of refugee to India is now down to a trickle 100 person for the whole year. Tibetan school in dharmsala is now closing down because lack of student. The Tibetan expat in India is dwindling because of discrimination, poor economic opportunity due to lack of citizenship. Meanwhile in Tibet they enjoy economic boom in the last decade and more and more younger Tibetan went thru Chinese school system and increasingly identify themselves as Chinese first with improve housing, social welfare, opportunity

So basically CCP has won the heart and mind of Tibetan Here is it Xi visit Nyingchi and take the train ride of the new line
Chinese President Xi Jinping began an inspection tour in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region on Wednesday. Xi arrived in the city of Nyingchi on Wednesday morning and took a train to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, on Thursday.
