To be fair, I don't think Voyager1, I mean @Kaine bashes China or any of the members here. The person just have a sardonic quality about the takes of the posts made. Most of the opinions asserted are quite neutral and some are also quite supportive of the actions China has taken. Although some of the takes this poster make can occasionally make you want to bang your head against the wall because of it's penchant for overly dramatic flair and nonsensical emotional takes but I think it's alright. Lol
@Bellum_Romanum bro its one of his quirks to generate discussion, which he is really good at, that's what I like about him but it rub off people in a wrong way which is unfortunate...lol Bro (voyager) slow it down, we are happy that you are back! hahaha

It's actually not. Sherman will hold talks with fifth rank foreign affairs official. Wang Yi will shake hand with Sherman after the talk is over. In another word, it's just a pat on the head while the real substantive talks are with official junior to Sherman in ranking.

And Sherman will not get a chance to go to Beijing. In fact, no officials of Biden administration of substantial rank, if any, have visited Beijing proper. The highest rank envoy yet is John Kerry, and he has only reached Shanghai.

But, Tianjin is only around 100km from Beijing while Shanghai is over 1,000km away. It's a significant concession I suppose. LOL.

I lament that two of the most powerful countries in the world are getting this petty. Don't know whose fault to start with, but it's rather tragicomic come to think about it.

You may not be aware of the historical precedence-- Qing imperial court used to kept foreign envoys in Tianjin while it was strong. Hence it's in a way symbolic. And Biden administration is resorting to mafioso tactics by making troubles for China to make China concede something for nothing. This time, China is in a good position to ignore that and make its displeasure known. Unless US is really serious about settling this by offering something real, I expect this to continue.

Biden is essentially using Hillary Clinton's tactic -- no surprise since his foreign policy cadre are from her tenure as Secretary of State. In the beginning of the Obama administration, there had been considerable good will toward US. Obama and Xi made a deal that Obama was not able to deliver, so Obama sucker punched Xi at Copenhagen climate conference. From this point on, there was no good will -- China expect US to pay for any deal immediately instead of on credit or for good will. Hillary Clinton's response was the pivot -- making trouble for China to force China to concede for nothing. This is actually pretty clever, as when things go south, it's not US that pays the cost, but the local suckers that got roped into this by US. And when things do go south, those suckers will run back toward US for protection anyway -- so no real loss even when China retaliated.

The difference this time is that the usual suspects for suckers are smarter this time not getting roped into this. But there are always new suckers...

They do know that if some of the Olympians develop cancer several years later, it will attract unwanted media attention right?

They will just hide behind normal average cancer prevalence rates and claim any and all cancers would have happened anyways. It would be pretty hard to draw a conclusive causal link unless you have a stupidly high percentage of people developing cancer, which would be very unlikely. But even then they will still flat out deny it, just look at all the idiots claiming covid is just the flu and it is depressingly plausible that they will get away with it.
