While unlikely that China will be boycotted successfully, there still runs a risk. Countries that can afford to participate in the Winter Olympics are rich Western nations, plus CJK. If the gamut of Western nations somehow, somehow manages to run a coordinated cooperation finally, then the Winter Olympics might as well not happen. The rest of the world, such as the Muslim world and Latin American world, doesn't really participate much in the Winter Olympics because of the lack of winter conditions and lack of financial resources. And these are the countries that wouldn't boycott based on a fraudulent lie and would also support China internationally.

The Winter Olympics is a club for rich Western nations.

@windsclouds2030 @Crang @hashtagpls @voyager1 if the Olympic boycott do happen, nobody in his/her right mind is willing to host any expensive Olympic event only to be subjected to such embarrassment.
Those rich western nations will quickly find themselves poor western nations if they pulled shit like boycotting the winter olympics; China is not the soviet union and any nation which has the idiocy to pull this sort of shit can expect being locked out of the world's largest market for years.

How long did it take for Norway to be allowed back into the Chinese market? And that was after Norway had to suck up to China and allow China into the Arctic Council.

When patriotism becomes a selling point, Western brands are put at a competitive disadvantage, especially in a country that increasingly requires global companies to toe the same political lines that Chinese firms must.
Ahaha what? You mean people dont like giving money to companies which are slandering and and openly mocking them?

Muh competitive advantage to Chinese firms, good stuff I say.
The young Chinese people are a promising sign for China's future

China’s consumer protests are “a historic turning point and will have lasting impact on the Chinese consumers in the long run,” Mr. Min said. “The Chinese consumers don’t want to eat the same crap foreign brands have been feeding them. It’s essential that foreign brands respect Chinese consumers as much as the Chinese brands do.”
This is what scares them

China’s President Xi Jinping on Wednesday told German Chancellor Angela Merkel Sino-EU relations were facing “various challenges” and he hoped the 27-nation bloc could “independently” make correct judgements, Chinese state media reported.
Western Media: "China SLAMS the EU, friendship over?"

Xi is basically saying that the EU should stop being a slave of the US

Moscow is preparing to respond to a new wave of potential economic and financial sanctions from the US with measures designed to shore up its currency, keep payments flowing, and ensure the country can maintain business as usual.

“There is clearly a deliberate calculation to create a toxic atmosphere around Russian securities in order to reduce their investment potential,” Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin told RIA Novosti on Monday.
“These possible new restrictions on government bonds are a double-edged sword, and they would clearly harm America’s financial institutions,” he said. “But we have long become accustomed to the fact that lovers of unilateral restrictive measures have ceased to care about their own loss of business, or their citizens.”

In response, he said, Moscow is working to “develop measures in case of any further hostile steps against Russia’s sovereign debt.” The minister added that, “as always, we will react in a balanced and adequate way, starting with the principle of maintaining the stability of the Russian economy and the financial system.”

A number of Russian officials have said in recent weeks that the country is exploring the development of a system to rival the SWIFT international payment mechanism. For a number of years, the idea that Russian businesses could be cut out of the platform has been discussed by Western commentators.

Asked whether this could soon become a reality, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that “we cannot rule out any of the potential threats… These actions are unreasonable and unpredictable, therefore, of course, this situation obliges us to be on the alert.”
During a meeting with his Chinese counterparts last month, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that that “the United States has declared its mission is to limit the technological development opportunities of both the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China.” He added that the dollar should be de-prioritized as the default currency of international markets, and the two nations should move away from the use of “Western-controlled international payment systems.”

In March, the US government imposed a package of new sanctions against Russian officials and businesses over the alleged poisoning and subsequent jailing of opposition figure Alexey Navalny. Since then, relations between Moscow and Washington have declined further, with US President Joe Biden sparking a row with a media interview in which he agreed that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, is a “killer.” The two nations are now reportedly engaged in high-level diplomatic discussions over the tense situation in eastern Ukraine.

Seems like Taiwan is on a roll in the media today.... first claiming it will fight to the death against China, now this.....
Maybe i am a bad person, but I would put a pilot with a terminal illness on a drone (compensate very well his family)
->Taiwan will shoot him down
->Get Casus belli
->Get some islands near Taiwan for compensation
->Build airfields and naval bases on the islands
->Repeat

Taiwan is increasingly puting out fantasy-level statements..

In fact there is so much truthfulness here... I myself don't watch Winter Olympic. Unlike the Summer Olympic, the winter one ain't interesting for me at all. The decision to host this event was made many years ago, at that time the world situation was much different than today. Hopefully from now on China will spend resources better than spending on Winter event like this Winter OG, which may be cool only for those Rich White Club :p As said by @ansy1968 -- for the rest of Asia, outside of the CJK, the Winter OG has no impact. Also for many other parts of the world too.

I think spending on the Winter Olympics is a good idea... so many people are now taking up winter sports because of the Beijing Olympics. So much business opportunity there, at least for opening winter resorts. And it's a healthy thing to do during winter. I'm waiting for @ansy1968 to bring us on a winter adventure sport tour in China :cool:
