plus news is US gov wants China to buy more of their debt again

more like they know the house of cards are collapsing and need to find a sucker to hold the bag while they head for exits

If CCP doesn't manage the dollar collapse well then they will lose credibility.

Tens of trillions of dollars of profit made off the backs of Chinese laborers was not enough to satisfy the greed of the West. They will come for more just like Huawei and Tiktok, then they might bring in the guns to go for even more.

In the minds of people like Pompeo, Navarro, and other China hawks, this is end times for them.

They must be completely desperate if they want China to do that, but China isn’t going to fall for the same mistake like last time in 2008. Besides, selling the us operations of TikTok doesn’t mean selling the USA the blue prints to how it’s made and hence depending on the situation it’s just a matter of China weighing in the situation since China’s economy is moving where as the USA economy has stop doing anywhere but is now incapable of moving. This means that China has the room to decide what is best of there economy. Since the USA is blacklisting Chinese companies, then should China stop investing into the us market, how on earth will the us economy recover, as they are unsafe for investment given that they have made it so unsafe to do business

This sounds like to make sure TikTok accepts whatever lowball price MSFT throws at them... maybe even significantly below 50 billion USD
Nothing is what it appears with Mr Art of the Deal, he probably got a cut of the transaction himself..

Bytedance probably rejected whatever offer was thrown at them.

America was never going to pay $50 billion to a Chinese company. It would loose too much face.
Rather the deal was: Either you separate yourself from you Chinese parent company or be Banned.

Bytedance of course said no. Trump then made the announcement to Ban it. Deal fell apart. But there was never going to be any deal. China either gives in to the US or be banned. But the Us is not going to give you billions of dollars, especially not when US demanding compensation from China for Covid19.

Any idea if Bytedance still gets to keep TikTok? Can't they just drop the US market? Or do you think they can sell it for the $50 billion value that was mentioned a while back?
Can I call this robbery? If ByteDance refuses to sell their company to any US firm, would the US government further ban it from listing in Google's Play Store, so that no one else on Earth except China can download the app?

Maybe Trump just wants to ban TikTok because TikTok has become a major platform of organizing Democratic supporters. Banning TikTok would eliminate a threat and the ability of the young college kids to rally against him. It is all about election for Trump. Whatever the price TikTok could fetch is a secondary concern from Trump's perspective.

From China's perspective, it needs to let the U.S. ban TikTok rather than having it being sold in a fire sale. So I wouldn't be surprised if China is forcing Bytedance not to sell and have Trump ban it instead. IMO since there was a delay from the announcement this afternoon of a potential sale of TikTok and now Trump saying he will ban it, I'm suspecting China stepped in and rejected a potential sale even if Bytedance wanted to sell.

A U.S. ban on TikTok has a major negative impact on its stakeholders in the U.S., especially the millions of "TikTok influencers", jobs and capital from U.S. investors. If TikTok gets banned, there needs to be collateral damage thereby creating a lose-lose situation.

A sale to Microsoft would mean all U.S. stakeholders are untouched whereas Bytedance and China got burned. I think Trump admin. initially wanted a sale but it was rejected by the Chinese side.
