A former Soviet republic with a population smaller than new zealand and a GDP of less than $60 billion trying to play big boy politics.

Let them fxxk off. And live the illusion that Taiwan is the right move. Sooner for later, Taiwan is going to be just another province of China. Good move little former Soviet republic!

Sounds like they are wanting something from China as a negotiation tactic. If China bows, other nations will follow suit. Just ignore them like they said the relationship is not important for either nation and so it shall remain.
That's not the point. Taiwan is still being internationally recognized. Yes, Lithuania and other East European countries are insignificant. However, if you ignore it, it will eventually become a slippery slope. One rat is nothing, but 10 rats are a headache. There is a reason why China focuses a lot of its efforts on either convincing or forcing countries to abide by the one-China policy.

As long as no major power recognizes Taiwan, it should not matter if 1 or 20 minor countries recognize the island as a sovereign nation. It mattered little 10 years ago as it is the same now. Today's China has real military and economic power, unlike 30 years ago when it needed as many countries it could get to recognize it as possible.

IMHO it is better to drain Taipei's little resources in some pointless face-saving campaign bribing some Banana Republic than it is modernizing its military or developing its economy. Bully every little country for such an insignificant thing and it plays into the Western propaganda about the Chinese threat and reignites fear of a Communist takeover in former Soviet states.

If it were me, I would simply cut off diplomatic communications and move China's embassy out. If you don't recognize China's sovereignty, China will not recognize yours.

Dollars to donuts that they'll backtrack in a couple of days.

I've read that Eastern European countries resent China because they're, not surprisingly, anti-communist and they thought after the Cold War ended, they believed they were suppose to reap the rewards of international trade and not communist China. So I'm not surprised that most of Eastern Europe have more of a nationalistic and an anti-China attitude.
