Almost every crisis today can trace its roots back to the past actions of UK. We have: India - Pakistan, Israel - Palestine, Hong Kong - China, etc etc...
The British empire was an expert at divide and conquer strategies. They benefited whenever there was conflict and division.
The influence they exerted and strategy used caused a lot of the on going conflicts. Another one would be Republic of Ireland - Northern Ireland. This one is much closer to home and has the danger of triggering issues with Scotland and Wales.
Anglo Saxons were not native to the British Isles if we look back 2 thousand years. They came mainly from coastal Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. Royals are descended from Viking settlers of Normandy who originated in the Nordic states then intermarried with other European royalty (mainly Germanic). The natives of the Isles were the ancestors of the Scottish, Irish and Welsh.
Anglo-Norman civilizational cycle started much earlier than the British Empire. It started after the decline of Roman influence in Northern Europe sometime in 400CE. For a few hundred years it was mainly loose collections of settlements. The current form began after 1066 when Normans (Viking settlers in France) started its long assimilation with the Anglo Saxon. For most of its history it wasn't the largest player in its region. Divide and conquer was a means of survival in a hostile world. Its major win streak started after the defeat of the Spanish armada leading to securing a foothold in the new world, capital formation, industrial revolution, colonization. We are living in a world where the British Empire has withdrawn. For ensuring a graceful decline, fields of former ownership must be salted. The nations that inherited these salted fields are predominately underdeveloped, enabling UK time to secure its position in a new order.
The consequences of the British Imperial retreat didn't affect China as dramatically as it did to the South Asian states due to the degree of colonization. A major reason is the Yihetuan/Boxer Rebellion. A modern analogy of Yihetuan/Boxer is the American militiamen. A group of supposedly uneducated militant fanatics with a supernatural dogmatic belief and a sense of patriotic duty. As a result, colonists saw China as a country that couldn't be directly controlled but must implement a proxy system to extract utility. Some argue that proxy was the ROC. Now China must deal with the aftermath, HK and Taiwan but is still in my opinion more favourable compared to India's position.
