I find it hard to believe that when Beijing originally planned the Hainan Free Trade Island, it didn’t consider deliberately letting Hong Kong people watch itself decline and fall. This is my thinking, the CCP had placed the necessary economic , social policy and infrastructure in place for the HKG people to integrate themselves with the mainland, so its up to the people of HKG to grab it. What is needed is a HKG leader who had the BALLS and VISION to implement it. Time will not wait and only thru competition that you can improve yourself. That is what lacking in the current generation of HKG business leaders they were sheltered and by designating Hainan and Shanghai Free trade Zone, the CCP hope it will revitalized the HKG business sector and acumen.
Plus I don't believed that HKG operates on a Laisse Fair economic activities, there is an entrench oligarchy that sap the blood of the HKG people. These oligarchy is the reason for the discord in HKG society and need to get rid of.
