They can't realistically hit iron ore for now, until China diversifies such as with the opening of the Guinea mine in 2026. Not in the near future. You need to wait for more iron ore sources to open up unfortunately
China can still inflict pain upon australia, just restrict tourism and education similar to what China did to south korea
China only issued trade sanctions on small ticket items so far and they already squirmed

There has not been any tourism or education for 9 months or so. They should have gotten use to that now.

I think they can. The CCP just tells the SOE start buying the iron ore from somewhere else. Australia iron ore is of a higher grade, therefore better in the production of iron.

That is the point, to extract the iron from the ore.

China does not buy 100% of its iron ore from Australia. They could stop altogether and go get it somewhere else, which would be less on the cost effectiveness scale.

Just go around asking other people in other countries. Any iron ore deposits? China will bankroll the development of those mines. Seems like there could be an embargo of iron ore coming from Australia.

They have been relying on jobkeeper program from the government to barely keep afloat and not having to lay off so many staffs
The federal government can't afford to keep jobkeeper program forever they have been running massive deficits in funding it, in fact they will start to reduce jobkeeper payments early next year

When that embargo happen, do you think China will use its rare earth card to retaliate? I mean banning iron ore is a massive provocation the same as declaring economic war

Not really. Iron ore needs that iron for pig iron, which should be for steel making I think.

Isn't China the world's biggest producer of steel? Iron ore is kind of like everywhere. Australia could find the remaining countries that are big steel makers. Cannot be America, because they probably supply all the iron ore for their own steel making, lol.

China produces more steel annually than the rest of humanity combined.

China does not produce near enough iron ore for her consumption though, I wouldn't say it's "everywhere". Only country which produces nearly as much is Brazil, which produces half Australian output.

Politics is politics. Business is business. China should continue to import iron ore from Australia. China has another way of revenge. For example, the tourism embargo

Thats true, with iron, its a meaningful exchange of money for raw resources, and the money can always be cycled back to buy more manufactured goods. I have no idea why chinese people would visit Australia on tourism anyways. They get charged double what any other foreigner does (basically lead to the most expensive crap), and then the Australian tour guides always speak shit to them behind their back. I'd rather just donate my money to an activist aboriginal NGO, at least thats' gonna help the rightful citizens of the country be able to speak up against being second-class citizens. Besides, why go to australia when you can come here to Canada?

I know canada isnt the perfect place either but we are way ahead of Australia at least, especially so when you consider what a racist totalitarian neighbor we have south of Canada.
