The only thing that makes me wonder is why doesn't the US pull the trigger and already have banned TikTok completely?
Trump tried to ban TikTok, WeChat through executive action.

People sued to stop the ban. Courts agreed and blocked the ban because of lack of evidence. It's a freedom of speech issue, you can't shutdown a social media platform on "suspicion" or "circumstantial" evidence of associate with "baddies", because you can invoke that against anyone who you disagree with, which stifles free speech.

So the courts blocked the ban. The best gov't can do is "ban government cellphones from using it". I even bet the tiktok ban on State government WiFi networks (Universities) would be challenged in court due to stifling of freedom of speech too.

This also sounds like the TikTok executive was subpoena to go testify at this US Congressional Subcommittee. This is stuff I saw out of those Hollywood movies.

So anything that executive says is under oath, and is evidence.

If he lies, then he is going to jail.

Should be interesting. They will not like what he has to say. LOL.

Truth hurts! Butt hurts, big time!

:D
Like that hearing of Facebook, a lawmaker asked Zuckerberg about Facebook monitoring WhatsApp chats and gathering data, and how FB uses the data of the chats, MZ responded saying that FB doesn't and can't monitor the chats, as they are encrypted end to end.

MZ didn't mention that only the NSA can decrypt the chats though :p (my speculation only).

TikTok is anything but China. Banning TikTok is purely political and economical. It has nothing to do with national security. Anyone with a ounce of brain knows that.

TikTok is ‘digital fentanyl’

CNN - TikTok is an addictive drug China’s government is providing to Americans, says the incoming chairman of a new House select committee on China.

GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin told that he calls TikTok “digital fentanyl” because “it’s highly addictive and destructive and we’re seeing troubling data about the corrosive impact of constant social media use, particularly on young men and women here in America,” and also because it “effectively goes back to the Chinese Communist Party.”

Damn... Now TikTok will be regulated as an illicit drug..

Opium war 2.0 in the metaverse, but I thought Facebook was on top of that already?

that would be kinda like if the US prohibited export of encryption software because somehow it was considered a digital munition...

Oh wait ...

A Yomiuri Shimbun reporter accompanied the team this time. The 997-ton Shinsei Maru survey boat, with Mayor Yoshitaka Nakayama and Tokai University researchers commissioned by the city aboard, arrived at an area about three kilometers off the southern coast of Uotsuri Island at around 7:50 a.m. Monday. The researchers flew a drone several times to within 300 meters of the island and took images of the surface.

And then:

CCG kicked them out like bouncers throwing bums out of a bar.
With all that mayor and stuff on board I bet they were trying to sneak some signage onto the island if CCG wasn't around.

CCG got something like 5 ships around Diaoyi Islands currently, including the 76mm gun armed 2501:

The only way they can compete with China is by lowering their superior labor standards like the high wages they like to have to think they're richer or the worst nightmare going against that is China has a far superior economy than the US therefore wages in China would rise.

Like I've been saying... the West is screwed in the future and the only way they can save themselves is by taking over the world like they did that got them to where they're at today. Good luck when the world has the ability to strike back in their homelands with nukes. That's why the West has a bleak future.
