Can I call this robbery? If ByteDance refuses to sell their company to any US firm, would the US government further ban it from listing in Google's Play Store, so that no one else on Earth except China can download the app?

You can call it robbery squared... even if US paid $50 bil, that is QE infinity means as dollar collapse by end of year, its worthless anyway...

Once US taste success /blood from this method they will apply it to everything else, next target likely DJI. As you know, all they have to do is list DJI on the entity list, then Apple and Google are forced to delist the DJI Go App, then literally all DJI drones worldwide become useless, DJI brand image tarnished, value prop of its drones nosedive, and this helps US domestic drone industry like GoPro, Karma, Skydio etc

This I'm not really sure.

But Apple and Google can be placed on the Unreliable list.

I wouldn't be surprised if China bans Apple if they start removing the app from other countries app stores.

FB and Google still make a ton of money from China and Chinese companies that place a lot of ads at their platform. Cisco, IBM, EMC and Oracle are also good target. Apple and MSFT are not off limit either.

Maybe just ban all US software that can be pirated.

Microsoft was complaining to Trump about Chinese using Windows and not paying. Piracy was largely responsible for Windows dominance when it wasn't affordable for most of the world. Now they want to be paid. I guess MS wants Tiktok as reimbursement with Trump as thug.

Yeah, Microsoft intentionally didn't take any action previously. They wanted to deny Linux adoption in China.

America was never going to pay $50 billion to a Chinese company. It would loose too much face.
Rather the deal was: Either you separate yourself from you Chinese parent company or be Banned.

Bytedance of course said no. Trump then made the announcement to Ban it. Deal fell apart. But there was never going to be any deal. China either gives in to the US or be banned. But the Us is not going to give you billions of dollars, especially not when US demanding compensation from China for Covid19.

Deal with MSFT was said to be announced this Monday and then this came out. Which shows that it fell apart; either MSFT not agreeing to the amount or something else with Bytedance. WH were involve in discussion between Byte and MSFT, so whatever occurred, WH would hear about it. I'm not sure if they were discussing selling only US operations or the entire TikTok operation.

Maybe Chinese government intervened last minute and said No deal
Maybe this is Trump ploy to get enough TikTok's in panic mode so they all jump on the Facebook Instagram "Reels" TikTok clone coming out tomorrow, then when TikTok lost enough userbase and IG's Reels has gained enough traction, Trump buys MSFT time for leverage to buy TikTok up pennies on the dollar now that the US side finishes maneuvering into position with far more leverage...

What happened was Trump was opposed to the MSFT deal all along. He listens to Peter Navarro who said weeks ago a sale wasn't going to be approved. Souce:

The only reason the news was leaked first is a last ditch attempt to save the deal, but it's likely not going to happen.

This was only the 2nd worse thing Trump could have done to TikTok. The worst thing would have been the entity list, which would have crippled the company worldwide. But he could still do that, and even if he doesn't many countries may follow in the wake of this, as we saw with Huawei Telecoms. That in turn could open the door to international bannings of Chinese consumer products of all sorts.
