It's up to the owner/Bytedance what they want to do. TikTok is still a huge company even with it banned in the US and India. I agree that America is getting more underhanded as it gets more desperate but the US government controls the US. If they don't want your app in there, then that's their call and you can either ban US apps in China in retaliation (done) or sell the thing for profit perhaps planning that Chinese citizens will jump ship onto a new Chinese platform. I don't use these things and symbolically, I prefer TikTok to stay Chinese but if they've got better plans and it doesn't make financial sense to keep it, that's up to Bytedance. I don't like it but this is one of the less ugly/dirty moves that the US has done recently.
This is exactly how the Mafia deals with competition.

In regards to Huawei, yes. But with TikTok, disallowing an app in the US is like banning a thing from being brought into your house. Every country has the right to do it. China does it to Google, Yahoo, Facebook, etc... The biggest difference is that China didn't offer to buy them, which sounds quite insulting.

Competition for the world throne is ugly mucky business. You gotta beat someone fairly, then you gotta beat him again at underhanded tactics, and hopefully, you don't have to beat him a third time in a World War before you've truly won. This is not an honorable game between gentlemen or knights; this is a survival fight for the future of everyone's children.

I guess this is the China version of "oil"

Maybe the global coalition tanks and jets will come in to enslave Chinese one day to open up China’s doors once again.

If China wins whatever great conflict is coming up, China should show no mercy to the West and its prostitutes.

No the biggest difference is China does not go around the world banning US companies. Not only will we make it hard for you to sell ur tech in the US, but you can’t do it in Europe, and can’t even do it in some Asian countries.

That is why I specifically differentiated the TikTok situation from the Huawei situation from the very first sentence in #4292. Nothing left to do but to innovate and take this opportunity to become self-sufficient.

This is about Tiktok and Huawei, and all future Chinese tech companies. All of them will face the same issues. Now If the goal is to just dominate the domestic market, China on cruise control can do that easy. But goal is to be like global champions like Samsung, Apple.

Well that's fine but everybody was just talking about TikTok so I gave my 2 cents that the TikTok situation is not the same or as devious as the Huawei situation. That's all I was saying. You can complain and say that the US is playing dirty in general and I definitely agree but such a complaint leads to nowhere. Of all the things that America has done recently (most prominently using unidentified agents in unmarked vans to beat and abduct its own citizens who protest), it's clear that America doesn't care about morality anymore. It's gonna be as ugly as it can; I don't think there's much of a point emphasizing it again and again. Even Pompeo said it's all about cheating, lying, stealing. Finding things to chastise America about from a moral standpoint is so easy it's not worth doing in my opinion. It's like going on and on about why rapists and murderers are bad people LOL. The interesting question is how will China overcome all of that ugliness which is obviously meant to stunt China's ascent.

Agree. But this kind of mafia tactics need to be called out.

The response is to obviously work with Europe, ASEAN, and all other economies.

The other possible solution is to undergo more political reforms to gain trust. But I’m not going to go there here.

I’m all for patience and hard work. But this is realpolitik, and only going to get more intense and nasty. Staying honest doesn’t win you any brownie points. Winning wins you points.
Chinese can still be honest and defence themselves forcefully, tit for tat where required. Retaliation can be a right to defend. It is to be expected East or West.
