Why does Venezuela need Iranian oil?

US used to sell diluent to mix with Venezuela's heavy oil, and refining chemicals to refining oil. US also sells gasoline to Venezuela as the refining capability is limited. US has placed sanction on any company or country that sells these materials to Venezuela. Only Russia and Venezuela and to a certain extent Turkey are providing these products now.

India used to sell diluent but stopped under threat of US sanction,

Why does Venezuela need Iranian oil?
They need refined oil*, to be precise. VZ oil is heavy/sour - needs to be refined before it can be used as gasoline for domestic purposes. VZ refineries are dependent on foreign materials, and after US sanctions against anyone that supplies them, their refineries are out of operation. Thus, Iran is helping by: (1) exporting surplus refined oil to VZ and (2) helping VZ fix their refineries (Iran had a similar situation after US sanctions about 10 years ago, but managed to master the technologies and ability to refine oil domestically now, so they can export this technology and relevant materials to VZ).

VANCOUVER -- A B.C. Supreme Court judge has ruled that a critical test in the extradition case of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou has been met, and the extradition process will continue.

In her

, released Wednesday morning, Associate Chief Justice Heather Holmes indicated that taken as a whole, the Huawei chief financial officer's alleged crimes would also constitute a crime in Canada, a principle known as "double criminality." Read the full decision below.

In the closely watched ruling, Holmes wrote that U.S. trade sanctions on Iran can be considered as context to understand Meng's alleged fraud, without being an "intrinsic part" of the conduct.

Related Stories
"The effects of the U.S. sanctions may properly play a role in the double criminality analysis as part of the background or context against which the alleged conduct is examined," Holmes wrote.

Meng is charged with bank and wire fraud in the U.S. for allegedly misrepresenting Huawei's relationship with a subsidiary doing business in Iran to HSBC., which U.S. authorities later allege processed financial transactions that violated U.S. sanctions.

She and Huawei deny the charges.

Her lawyers have argued that because Canada didn't have sanctions on Iran, the bank wouldn't have been placed at risk, there could not have been fraud, and thus there would be no crime in Canada.

But Justice Holmes did not agree with their argument.

She wrote that Meng's defence team would have each element of her conduct imported and considered on its own in Canada, but by doing so "the approach loses sight of their overall effect, and thus of the 'essence' of the alleged conduct."

"Ms. Meng's approach to the double criminality analysis would seriously limit Canada's ability to fulfill its international obligations in the extradition context for fraud and other economic crimes." Holmes wrote.

Meng and her lawyers are scheduled to appear in B.C. Supreme Court to discuss next steps.

This is a developing news story. Check back for updates.

Why don't I see front page stories in CNN, CBC, or BBC condemning US police in riot gear fire rubber bullets and tear gas at thousands of protestors demanding the arrest of four Minneapolis cops involved in the death of african-american George Floyd?

Instead, I'm subject to continued round-the-clock coverage extolling the virtues of american private enterprise around a launch of "astronauts" aboard some private rocket (which did not end up happening anyways).

But then again, what do I know... of course western mainstream media is unbiased and fully objective. How dare I think otherwise.

I saw the whole video and it made my heart race and wrench.

They’re quick to point out fake news in frontpage headlines when it targets them.

But they use fake news against Chinese liberally.

We can see now the anti-Chinese news are intentional and well organized and likely genocidally racist in nature. They want to treat Chinese like they did to that black guy.

Monday: We watch in horror as 4 officers murder unarmed African-American citizen George Floyd in front of cameras for the world to see.

Tuesday: Minneapolis police start using tear gas and rubber bullets against civilians protesting systemic police violence against the African community.

Wednesday: The US National Guard (a branch of the military) is deployed in the city to crack down on the demonstrations and much of the city is now in flames. One man was shot to death as protests continue across Minneapolis.

I’ve never seen anywhere in the world where a government was so eager and willing to escalate the use of violence to full-scale deployment of the armed forces against its citizens within 48 hours of a video showing a brutal murder of an unarmed civilian.

Police cars are running over the George Floyd protesters. This is even happening in Los Angeles which is 2,000 miles away from Minneapolis where the 4 officers originally killed an unarmed George Floyd. Even Tank Man from the iconic Tiananmen Square video never actually got run over.

The riots will fade out because there is no government/media backing them and no paid protesters.

Hongkong riots are so artificial in comparison.

Of course these are called violent riots while they’re called peaceful protests in hongkong.
