Gonna need to lick the boot to save their own country's economy because of over-reliance on being the hub for finance and trade between US and China, and currently ensuing demographic collapse. Or just being the bone to throw at US, so that it doesn't feel isolated from ASEAN, as the other ASEAN countries don't wanna deal with their mess.

Jais gonna jai. But their rulers know what's going on and in case they don't China can always squeeze them a little to remind them of their place. A few months of no chemical and electronics imports, and they'll be squirming... then you add food to the mix.
