What's wrong with victor Gao? I'd much rather a hawkish spokesman than a harasser of young chinese girls like the tom fowdy.

Fowdy should have been fired long ago; giving employment to Sexpats simply because white audiences are racist enough to only listen to white voices is a practice that must end yesterday.

China also "stole" the Sri Lanka port. Might need another helicopter for that
The showcase of lie & deception!

The truth about Sri Lanka’s Hambantota port, Chinese ‘debt traps’ and ‘asset seizures’

When critics of Beijing accuse the government of debt traps and other predatory policies, the example that crops up is almost always that of the Chinese-built Hambantota International Port in Sri Lanka.

The government of Sri Lanka, a country where Chinese firms have also financed and constructed railways, roads and power stations, allegedly failed to repay Chinese loans to build the port and was then forced to lease it to China, which covets the port as a naval base.

It is part of an oft-told tale that China provides infrastructure loans to developing countries, often as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, knowing they cannot be repaid, allowing China to seize borrowing states’ valuable assets.

US consultants the Rhodium Group recently released a study into Chinese asset seizures and found just one instance: the above-mentioned Hambantota port.

However, interviews we have done in Sri Lanka show that even this lone instance is NOT REMOTELY TRUE.

The Hambantota port lease was not a result of any inability to service the loans, nor was it a debt-for-equity swap — the Sri Lankan government still owns the port. And funds received for the lease were not used to repay port-related debt, but to pay off MORE EXPENSIVE LOANS, generally to Western entities.

Why being so harsh on Fowdy? He's just a young Brit who might have slipped a bit with distraction on some attractive Chinese young girl/lady... but to shun him for such little wrongdoing is a mistake imo. He already apologized for the human slip. If Chinese people demand every foreigner who has positive view on China to behave like a saint, they may find there are not many.

But frankly, foreigner or not, such mistake of some kind sexual attraction/distraction of a young man to a young woman is common cause, not a capital sin, it's unlike there's a *raping* incident! Even there happened one-night stand I will still close my eyes. I do not favor the high-moral-ground-priest in this turbulent world. Sexual matter is just part of the nature. It applies on Fowdy. It applies on Peng. Or anyone else! Don't like the sexual issue being politized! So just be proportional!

Because of an inherent weakness of the Chinese political system. It has no room for political or policy dissent or for ventilation even when grievances are genuine.

So when you have such characters they can only ventilate from outside of China and not within unlike in democracies.

Add Western propaganda and their voices get amplified you'd think they are the majority.

It's a cost that China must bear.
Yeah, the Chinese should have plenty of room for such political or policy dissent in open and then end up at the comparative level of INDIA. Great thinking!

I name INDIA because only TWO civilizations EVER cross the 1,000,000,000 population benchmark throughout the entire mankind history!

The USA is fortunate that they still have the Petrodollar Reserve Currency status so the "printing press" still works! Imagine if one day they no longer have such "printing press" to hand out all the free allowances to their population! Still the US number is quite far away from the giant Top Two... so really, only India serves as a good comparison however its relevancy and usefulness, an inferior one.

Really, even those avid readers here, and I assume they are sincere in their thoughts and not selling some other agendas, are having muddy minds to grasp the great difficulty and complexity in managing a nation as huge as 1439 million population (2020) and 1447 (present, 2021, already added up another 8,000,000 mouths, the size of another small nation in Europe).

I will list the TOP-7 most populous nation in the world (2020 figures), over 200 million population only, then just analyze the conditions of each!

1) CHINA 1439
2) INDIA 1380
3) USA 331
4) INDONESIA 274
5) PAKISTAN 221
6) BRAZIL 213
7) NIGERIA 206

Banning Tom Fowdy from CGTN over his genuine criticism of CGTN is indeed tragic. I have been very critical of the Chinese media for years for their extremely poor PR skills vs any decent media in the West, SEA, HK, Japan, and SK. This was horribly exposed during the 2019 HK riots. China lost the information war hands down. This information war defeat had serious consequences. It resulted in the terrible outcomes of the HK local elections, Tsai winning her presidential election, divided China's image among the overseas Chinese communities, and worse of all, failed to stop the tsunami of Sinophobia since 2019.

That being said. The Chinese media today is objectively better than it was in 2019. In 2019, watching how CGTN covered the HK riots was quite a sad experience. They later learned to do better with their talk shows with Liu Xin, Wang Guan, and etc. But they are still miles behind the corporate medias of the 'free-world'. They should do a lot more collaboration with other like-minded media like RT to figure out a way to improve their reporting work. If I were the Chinese govt, I would try to buy out the SCMP, perhaps keep Yonden, and some of their more sensible journalists, and then purge it of their pure anti-China shills. Make SCMP more neutral, no more hating on China, but also give enough space to argue genuine constructive criticism of China.

I hope Tom Fowdy doesn't get too discouraged by this CGTN censor. His criticism of Chinese state media is legitimate because it was a constructive criticism. He must continue to combat the anti-China disinformation campaign. Eventually, the Chinese media will learn their lessons and recognize him again.

PS. I do hope that the Chinese State Propaganda start to reign in Victor Gao. His interviews with the Australian media, and even CGTN America were disasters for China's PR campaign. I get his intentions, but his views are also quite hawkish, and he has a problem of expressing his views a bit too crudely. I would prefer a someone like Eric Li to be interviewed by the Western media. He is far more grounded and sophisticated than Victor.
I mean there's not much China can do. I'm not sure if going sensationalist is to the long term advantage.

You could create the Ministry of Zhao Lijian to do PR blitzes.

But really actions speak louder than words. Eventually people will realize China ain't so bad. It's just that it's going to take another ten years for it to happen.

China wasn't born with a forked tongue. I don't think it should be forking its clean tongue.

Plus China is disadvantaged by having to lug its pair of hundred pound balls of titanium everywhere it goes

Taiwanese Tycoon Targeted by China Speaks Out Against Taiwan Independence

@Temstar Seems like it's working. All the rich Taiwanese are willingly crawling out of the woodwork and raising the white flag
The "Red and Black Ledger" as it's called back during the Chinese Civil War. If you were a somebody you might find your name entered into a line in the ledge. When you did something in the interest of the CPC they will note down a red dot against your name. Conversely if you did something against the interest of CPC they will note down a black dot against your name. If the number of black dots exceed the number of red dots by some critical value you might find yourself getting a visit from an assassin. Conversely when CPC captures and area and lines up KMT people against the wall they will check the ledge and let people off if they have more red dots than black, and if you have a lot more red dots than black CPC would even say you've made outstanding contribution to the revolution and take you in as one of their own.

The idea being that few people are 100% revolutionary or counter-revolutionary, most people exist somewhere in the middle and it would be folly to see the world in black and white terms. Sometimes KMT people might do something in the interest of CPC because they're having a charge of heart; sometimes CPC agents inside KMT might do something against the interest of CPC so that they don't below their cover. How do you recognise weather KMT defectors are genuine or if CPC agents haven't turned double agent? You record down their behaviour overtime in the ledge and let the results speak for themselves.

The CPC doesn't publish the scores in the ledge, just let people know that it exists. As long as you live you retain the ability to improve your score in the ledge. As CPC victory became increasingly likely the ledge became a more and more powerful psychological tool, to the point that by late civil war low ranking KMT people who capture a CPC agent might just slip him a note with name of himself and few friends and let him go, with the understanding that the CPC agent will ensure a red dot in the ledger against everyone's name on the note.

The exact same thing is happening here. I have observed that on Taiwanese TV show people have been arguing that Taiwanese businessmen may not necessarily support DPP, but under current political climate in Taiwan you have to donate to the DPP or else they will start causing trouble for you. The CPC is saying here "well I don't know how you really feel and I recognises your difficulties, but regardless you still have to recognise that every time you donate to DPP you earn yourself a black dot in the ledge and the days of account settling is coming, so you might want to start earning some red dots" and that's exactly what we're seeing here.
