"When Zhang and I were collecting information, we found no proof that Xinjiang has forced labor," Liu told the Global Times. She noted that all the overseas information in the Chinese version of the report were given to them by Yao, who also oversaw their analysis on "forced labor.''

Liu said that in May 2020, she handed in the first draft of the report to Yao, which "she was not satisfied with'' and wrote in the email that she felt it was "hard to submit it after comparing ours with the report written by our colleagues in the US."

"The report from the US concluded that there was forced labor in Xinjiang, which was a big contrast with ours which found no evidence of such activities," Liu said. "That was the problem.''

But the second version of the report came to a different conclusion, which Liu did not agree with. Edited by Yao, the polished version took an opposite approach to normal research, first arriving at a conclusion then trying to find points to support the conclusion.
Looks like BCI might get counter sanctioned soon. Any company that follows BCI won't be allowed access to Chinese market. So either all the big western clothing brands can abandon BCI or the world's biggest market.

It’s not enough for BCI to be sanctioned; the authors who made shit up to smear Xinjiang should be indicted and sent to Chinese prisons.
The only way to train these ppl is to strike fear and violence into them

Start from 27 till the end if one wants to understand the issue

I think this is probably one of the best interviews to understand Pakistani perspective on this situation

(A bit of Background on this guy, he ended the Taliban insurgency in Pakistani territory, so he is as reliable a source on this issue imo)

(summary but still watch it to understand the issue)

- He said yes India is involved in supporting insurgencies in Pakistan, that's out of the question as he experienced it himself during the campaign

- To give China serious damage as far as its ambitions are concerned, destabilizing Pakistan and ending CPEC is very important

by calling Pak areas disputed (it was disputed but historically India never made a fuss out of it and largely accepted the status quo because it was a peaceful region compared to Kashmir), supporting and popping up insurgencies, buying out and creating ideologies to polarize society at large

- names recent incidents of terrorism against China in the country

- Said the Bus incident was a lost opportunity to talk about our side of the story of Indo-US nexus attacking China-Pak interests, Pak is wrongly being apologetic about it and trying to turn it into an accident (I believe they fear lost investment opportunity)

- You cannot decouple US- Indo interests when it comes to CPEC

- CPEC connects 2/3 of the world, with BRI and CPEC as the flagship represents a connection with major chunk of the world economy and will easily propel China into THE most dominant economic powerhouse as far as financial muscle is concerned

- Will US take it laying down? of course not, US will respond

There is no alternative to CPEC route except for Malacca straits itself, CPEC is essential for China if BRI is to succeed, Gwadar has (naturally) potential to accept more Cargo than all of Indian ports combined, can take more than 80 million tons of cargo

- If it becomes as expected/projected in 2030 than all of transshipment trade of the region will be affected which in turn will effect the status quo so no one in the region likes it

- This is a huge problem for Pakistan and to stop the country from becoming a war zone

Pak should be working overtime, bend over backwards to rope in the Americans to come in as a competitor, give them another port, make another project with them so they can compete with the CPEC as a parallel

2 solutions

- Sell them on the minerals of Afghanistan (US is trying to lay of the Chinese rare earths and Afghanistan has a huge deposit of em), so US remains relevant in the region and you don't start fighting a massive proxy war with a superpower and a regional powerhouse in India both trying to land a knockout punch

- China wont be receptive but this is the only answer for a country our size, other answer is try to take the conflict (which is difficult)

to SCS or east of Pakistan but it shouldn't remain in Pak

If it remains in Pakistani territory and develops further, He is convinced doesn't matter if China wins or US wins, Pakistan will be devasted and may not survive as a country like it is in its current form

This CPEC has attracted trouble for Pakistan unfortunately and this will probably get worst, proxy wars are the shittiest wars that can take place in a country, you cant get a cease fire...
Pakistan is stuck between a rock and a hard place. And yes “taking the conflict to SCS or East of Pakistan” will be very difficult.

It is sad that there were people such as Yao Wenjuan which cooperated with Westerners to demonize China.

Why are people like this mother f.. who seeks to damage his own country with insidious lies just so he can profit for himself. That's unfortunate and maddening.

From the article:

"I love my country. I never wanted to be involved in anything that undermines our national security. This is a huge blow to me," Zhang said.

Liu said she is considering to sue Yao for getting them involved in the case.

Are these people this mother f..ng stupid and naive that they couldn't smell the politics of this so called report that they had the hand in helping to propagate? Are some of our Chinese brethren this desperate to make a buck that some are more than willing to ruin the country's reputation so long as they can profit from it. Wow. What a bunch of idiots

Not sure what you mean. They wrote a report saying there's no forced labor in Xinjiang, then some one edited their report to say the opposite. That's not on them.

I have to say, until these last few years, there were a lot of people in China who were rather naive about western organizations including NGOs, non-profit organizations, media outlets, companies, and even governments. The last few years have been quite eye-opening to the people in terms of western hypocrisy, double-standards, disinformation and lies.

Indeed, it's pretty amazing the change that has taken place in just two years.

That has about as much teeth as US bounties on Chinese hackers. Those people are never going to go to China, just like Chinese hackers are never gonna leave China. Unless you plan to kidnap them (and we all know how well that went in Hong Kong) it just looks like empty buffoonery.

I also love Tsingtao beer, few years ago I had a tour on a Tsingtao House in Qingdao and had some best quality beer there
the best beer I ever had in my life.

Unfortunately it's pandemic situation, so those German sailors can't off the ship like a normal visit. Whatever happened in the past, the Chinese people have deep relationship with the German people for the last several centuries since the visits of those Jesuits during Kangxi reign, in particular Qingdao city in the past, and of course the Tsingtao beer itself!
@windsclouds2030 Not a particular beer drinker so maybe my qualification doesn't count, I had tasted Tsingtao its okay but when I drink a pint of Corona beer in London and also a bottle of Asahi beer in Hokkaido they're the best beers I tasted in my whole life. I also heard people in China saying that Harbin beer is way more better than Tsingtao and I want to try it out. :D
