Swirling, widespread reports that Beijing’s top counterintelligence official has defected to the United States are “not accurate,” a U.S. government official told SpyTalk on Tuesday.
“We are just looking to correct the record,” said the official, speaking on terms of anonymity to discuss the highly sensitive issue.
SpyTalk had sought comment from the State Department last week when preparing a story on mounting rumors that Dong Jingwei, vice minister of the , China’s principle espionage and internal security agency, had defected in February via Hong Kong along with his daughter Dong Yang. The department did not respond.

But on Tuesday a U.S. official reached out to say reports of Dong’s defection were not true. Speaking strictly on terms of anonymity, the official declined to elaborate further, including on Dong’s present whereabouts, only hinting that the counterspy remains in China.

The reduction will be quite significant. According to , "In the first five months of the year China snapped up 444.9 million tonnes". In other words, China will be importing roughly a billion tons of iron ore from the Australians this year. If even the 480-million ton decrease happens, China's imports from the land of Oz will drop 50%. So not only will China be buying less, the price will also crash. @voyager1 is laughing too soon.

Combined that with increase import of secure russian or indonesian ores, China should be able reduce significantly its reliance on australian iron

Now China says that they will invest in African iron mines. Just wait until the CIA comes, destabilize the country there and watch as the mine goes poof lol

This is what I mean about aussie media daily assault on China.

5 headlines at smh on china related news, all negative. Was China at any point ever this fixated on australia like Australia is on China?

And I didn't even include the news on UN report on great barrier reef being endangered that angered Aus government leading Ley to smear China.

And to note this newspaper is considered centre leaning and prides itself on being "independent and neutral". Of course truth is its actually owned by Gina Reinhart the super rich mining heiress. I loath to think wat sky and other Murdoch owned media report on China today.

Ok. Saw that and noted. I hope the rumors of defection are just that.. rumors. Though in matters like this, the CIA/Fed would never publicly admit or deny it.

As per custom, defections or who has who's spies are worked out in back channels.

I forgot all about Sun Yang... reading what happened to this guy makes me want to spit blood...

Back when I was a young man in the University I had one course with an old white guy professor that was a "know it all" type that always wanted to get the last word in... At first I didn't think him to be racists and he had lots of other Asian students and I didn't observe him treat anyone else badly... What happened was I was not a typical Chinese American (you know the stereotype, the study hard, be super respectful, keep head down and to yourself, don't challenge authority etc) and acted just like one of the "white guy" dufus types that you always see in every class... Having grown up in the US I have no disillusions that my skin tone and dna will dictate that I will never be a true American in the way a John Smith would be accepted despite both our US passports on paper stating the same, but at the same time I didn't feel the need to conform to the stereotype of the typical Chinese American just because all of them around me were a certain way or maybe my white old professor was anticipating or expecting me to be just like the rest of them.... Anyway long story short, I made a A in the class but the dude game me a C... no matter how you add up the grades it added up to a low A and not a C... eventually I appealed it up to our department dean and she said because I made a fuss out of this and embarrassed the professor in front of the whole class about it (which was true) that she was only going to correct it to a B instead of an A and that there must be some compromise for the professor to save face otherwise if I wanted more out of this not even the governor of Texas could force the University to make the change in the grade etc... My takeaway of this experience is when you are a yellow guy living in white guy country, they will let you have some "space" to live if you kowtow and "know your station" in life and don't try to outdo one of them... its okay for a white guy to act the way I did in front of the professor or in the class, he wouldn't dare try to intentionally screw a Tom or a Dan or a Joe over by giving them a C when they earned a A but when a "China-Man" does it then it triggers the latent racisms that they had hidden all along but then pushed them over the edge and they will go down triple hard on you for not conforming to their expectations and blame you for tripping and triggering them over the edge and invoke what they tried to buried...

The Sun situation was the same.... Sun got screwed over the same way Meng got screwed over... Meng committed no crime and Sun was no drug cheat... Even pre-Covid there was news article of this Aussie prick that refused to stand for the Chinese anthem and turned around backwards or sat down lower on podium or some other crap shenanigans and was just an all around poor sport and sore loser... the white man will allow you some breathing room to live as long as its at the bottom (unless you are black and your name is George Floyd) but the moment you try to rise above or go beyond the "norms of expectations" that they have set for you in their mind you get the Huawei treatment and they smack you back down with the bamboo ceiling.....

No you are right, he defected and gave CIA all the nuclear launch codes to China arsenal... soon China will have an accidental "nuke" go off because of poor Made in China quality and a whole Chinese city will get self-glassed and it will be the End of China for realz this time

He's going to wait it out for a more "convincing" news where Dong is going to appear on T.V. to assuage his concerns otherwise this recent news isn't going to do much in convincing the already convinced (Dong is in American custody) unless China does what people like him wants to do which is display the man like a trained monkey to satisfy the American stupidity and gullibility.
