I thought this is a good read from a blog I read.

There is a Chinese saying “If you want to beat a dog you have to watch who the owner is”…….. 打狗也要先睇主人.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founder of modern China, once told a story about a Chinese merchant in the Dutch East Indies.

The Dutch government imposed a curfew that specifically targeted the Chinese populace there. The merchant was out visiting his friends one day, and it was only when night fell that he remembered he had forgotten his identification papers.

So the man went to a brothel, and paid a coin to a Japanese prostitute – not for her “services”, but simply to have her walk him home. He did so knowing the Dutch police would never antagonise a Japanese national.

Why did the Dutch victimise the Chinese, but not the Japanese?

Because Japan was a rising power, and China was weak.

You can be the most successful and richest merchant where you live, but if your ancestral homeland is weak, then even the lowliest prostitute will command more respect than you, simply for being from a strong country.

Hard to swallow, but it’s true. And it doesn’t matter which nationality overseas Chinese see themselves as, because in the eyes of their adopted countries, the Chinese will always be outsiders and/or inferior. Whatever you think you are, others will see you as Chinese first.

Most in China already know this to be true, but COVID just made it more explicit.

Unfortunately, many overseas Chinese still do not, or perhaps do not want to, get the point. They think that by denying their heritage, and throwing their own people and homeland under the bus, they will be more accepted by their new found tribe.

By the way, you can easily buy a US, Canadian, UK, Australia or New Zealand Citizenship, but you cannot buy a Chinese Citizenship.

Chinese is based on your heritage and roots. It took us 5,000 years and it is not for sale

Very true ..... wondering where was the event? Indonesia?

This sets a very bad example for other officials.
There are written and unwritten rules among officials about this. This is part of anti corruption campaign and cutting officials excesses. We see how the Chinse top officials dresses plainly particularly when dealing with domestic audience, not even a coat and tie, just plain jacket particularly for Xi Jinping.

This partly explain the reason why Chinese political elites now dont have this untouchable image unlike in Jiang and Hu era where officials and ordinary people are flaunting their new found wealth blatantly. Officials wearing expensive items now will surely attract an investigation.

An honorable military man amongst the tidal wave of warmongering fools. I remember reading this man's article and then reading his background I thought was odd since the man is or was currently working at the Pentagon of all places. And now here we are. The beauty of Freedom of Speech American style...

"Franz Gayl" isn’t just an American. He is a celebrated whistleblower — whose conduct was praised by then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) — and a retired Marine major working at the Pentagon.

"I knew it would get everybody’s attention,” Gayl told The Washington Post. “And man, did it.”

"Some commenters accused him of treason for the piece, which comes at a time of elevated tensions between Washington and Beijing, after it was

by a conservative publication. But Gayl shrugged off the criticism."

"He even penned

for the Global Times, which the Trump administration had

, a month later."

"Then the U.S. government launched a counterintelligence investigation, suspending the 64-year-old’s security clearances while it seeks to determine whether Gayl has been compromised."

Yeah, exactly.

That is why the Jews are the example to follow for the overseas Chinese.

Everyone was after the Jews at one time or another (only exception was the Chinese as China was the only country in history to not prosecute the Jew). But, the Jews are still here, and thriving.

As a minority, you need a cunningness to survive. Adapt and win.

The Jews, are still Jews.

The people who complain too much, they are not going to survive. If they do, they live a subsistence life, or maybe their identity is eradicated.

Less complaining. More cunning. That is what is required.

Over time, most overseas immigrants realize this.

The complaining get us nowhere. The cunning is everything.

That's why I am still fresh off the fucking boat.

F_ that shat.

:D :p

Jews are not thriving.
If they were, why aren't there a billion of them, like the other Abrahamic religions of Christianity or Islam?
Or even Hinduism or Buddhism/Taoism?

Roughly half of all Jews today live in the State of Israel, surrounded by many more Muslims who believe Israel stole Palestinian land.
If Israel ever loses a single battle, Israel is finished, and they know it.
Everywhere else Jews have to live as a small minority, and are constantly reminded that their customs don't fit in with the rest of society.

The Jews are a closed minority whose identity is strictly tied to birth, religion and language - who aren't welcoming of converts.
That is a big reason why they remain a small minority wherever they are.

They are not a good example for China to follow in this regard

This is the article that led to the retired Marine losing his job at the Pentagon.

"As an American, my priority is US national interest. Attempting to support the renegade island of Taiwan's secession is directly contrary to the US national interest as we know in advance we will lose. Even in defeat many politicians, conservative ideologues, financially incentivized journalists, and special interests such as the US defense industry would benefit, just as a similar cabal did after Vietnam. But Taiwan secession is a transparently shallow cause with no path to victory. In fact, historical precedent shows that the US will lose primarily because the American public will see through the fraudulent deadly farce, but only after the unspeakable tragedy unfolds."

"In the end, China' Province of Taiwan will always mean more to the physically proximate, ethnically identical, and nationalistically fueled China of over 1.4 billion, than it will to the distant, over-extended, and above all falsely incentivized US of 350 million. The heaviest burden of the tragedy of war will fall on the young, patriotic men and women who volunteered to serve in the US military in the faith that an assigned cause is legitimate and worthy of their sacrifice. Unfortunately, a war between the US and China over the island of Taiwan would be a complete betrayal of their good faith."

BuzzFeed News won a Pulitzer Prize on Friday for a series of innovative articles that used satellite images, 3D architectural models, and daring in-person interviews to expose China’s vast infrastructure for detaining hundreds of thousands of Muslims in its Xinjiang region.
The Pulitzer Prize is the highest honor in journalism, and this is the digital outlet’s first win since it was founded in 2012.

Now I wonder what "deal" the State Department were proposing.

after the Alaska fiasco, blinken hated yang so much, he resorted to personal attack. he claimed "yang has no real power, he is one hundred miles away from China's inner power circle". then why bother to call?

But Mearsheimer is an institution of the so called "realist" thought in the U.S. foreign policy circles. He has a long distinction and distinguished career post West Point Academy, defense and then ultimately into academia. The other fella a retired "grunt" and was up until recently a civilians D.O.D. official whose opinions and past history of antagonizing the powers that be just couldn't be forgiven for his two most recent commie supporting thesis or opinion piece, especially when it comes to the U.S. far east pièce de ré·sis·tance that is Taiwan - apparently no longer ethnically Chinese but more White...ks.
