Just another question related to Aerodynamic research esp. for the current 5. generation projects in China ...
In the old SU aeronautical research was done not only esp. by the design bureaus or manufactures but also from the TsAGI … a state-owned research facility. New break-thru results were then often diverted to the individual designers, to work with. In that way the Su-27 and MiG-29 earned a very similar configuration.
Does anyone know if that is or at least was in China too ??? … I ask because from CAC we know some more or less well-known projects following the J-7 … J-9 in its different configurations finally to the J-10 + the FC-1, several of them flew successfully (besides the J-9). From SAC we also know some projects the J-11 and J-13, but besides the Flanker manufactured under license the only active/succesful type is the J-8 also based on the venerable J-7-technology.
Are there or have there been any “secret SAC projects”, we don’t know … and was there some common research for all Chinese design institutes and sadly we only knew the results from CAC. Or is / was in China every institute working, developing for itself ?? So, will the J-13 share some features of other contemporary fighters from CAC ?
So this second J-13 would be the first “new” indigenous SAC project after the J-8 !!… ???
