Minor point, but both the Japanese and the Spanish have purchased the AEGIS system from the US. The Kongo class DDG for the Japanese and the F100 Alvaro de Bazan class FFG for Spain.

True. But are the ships you pictured fully 100% as capable as a Tico or Arliegh Burke? How much tech did the US let those countries have? I ask because I really do not know.

Kongos supposedly got Baseline 7 upgrades or something similar, and rumored to have received them earlier. Japan was way ahead of everyone in ESA back in the days.

And the F100 is said to be the most capable AEGIS platform on a cost to firepower basis.

I think the difference is that AEGIS didn't just appear overnight as, it was a gradual development, whereas the Dreadnought class was a paradigm shift which changed things overnight. At least that's the popular history and it's not far off I think.

The F-117 might be the modern Dreadnought, though not in a purely naval regard.

Good point, Planeman. However looking through history, what might seem "overnight" to us now took them years of development. The same point it true that in the future, people might see our development as "over:) night"

yes, unfortunetly that has become true in the everyday military-fan language:(
But then again, all novel and new equipment tends to leave their name for the weapon type, so nothing to be shamed of really...
