4 fighter pilots of the First air division.
J-8II at the back, with the Siberian Tiger (northeast tiger in china) which is the newest icon for the division.
1st air force division is one of the oldest unit in the air force. the defender of the northeast industrial district and the Aces over the Korean air. most likly formed in 1950, with the HQ in Anshan. this division's patch will be in my hands shortly, muahahaha.

punks? is this supposed to be an insult?
they are jet pilots, as long as J-8IIs are still in service, that's not the a very good unit, since J-8II is not the best jet in the service. Even though Su-27/J-11 are produced in shenyang, but many are issued to the south units. The newest photos are showing 1st div is being issued 11s, which is....very nice.......
the point of this picture is, chinese pilots are no longer "woodstick" infront of the jets, they are young and live as all of the other pilots in the west.

Interesting

Hey Red Guard,

Many times we Westerners crack jokes with each other. Take the US Navy. Going back as far as the 1930s, you had different aircraft communties and the pilots from each communities would tease each other. Example:

VF Fighter Guys F4 and later F14 pilots/RIO

VA Attack Guys A4,A6 and a7 guys

VFA Fighter Attack Guys (FAGS) F/A-18 Hornet pilots.

You also have guys calling guys from other units punks or pukes.

Fighter Jock, Recon Puke.

Also plane types have funny stories.

F-15E Mud Hen
EA-6B Prowler is sometimes called the Queer
F/A-18 Hornet is often called the Bug
F-14 is often called the Turkey
A-7 Corsair (Short Little Guly uh Fellow yeah)
F-104 was called One Oh Whore (because of the stubby wings, it was said to have no visible means of support)
AV-8 Harrier (Lawn Dart,Widowmaker)
F-4U Corsair Ensign Elimenator
AD/A-1E/H Skyraider was called the SPAD by the US Navy crews.

The F-105 was called THUD by other pilots until the name was taken as a badge of honor and respect.

Other nicknames

F-100 The Hun
F-101 One Oh Wonder
F-111 Magic Show, Switch Blade,Varks,Pig

HH-3A Sea King Rescue Version (War Winnebego,Whittling Shitcan)
A4 (Hotrod,Scooter,Mighty Midget,Fartcart)

Some names and jokes are made in good fun. For the Navy and Marines, they will always join together to joke and tease the USAF.

Chairman Hu

Banned Idiot
Gimme a J-10 or J-11 and I'll RISK MY LIFE

Why?

Cuz I have no life and I'm a loser

Why?

Cuz I'm a outcast

Why join?

Cuz dying in the air is better than in ground, plus I'm defending my own country

really, i've been in canada for many years, and i see this. it might be the cultrual difference, we chinese find it very hard to take. we normally would name the units and self some very cool name like.....mountains, and..rivers, and iron something something .... which....when it comes out in english, i kinda feel we are like the indians...."strong mountain"......that's why i post this pic, as today's pilot is no longer posing in those formal poses like in attention and stuff......
