075 LHD thread

Destroyer level sensor and armament don't contribute much (or any) towards ASW capability.
They contribute to a ship fully and equally integrated into surface ASW group steaming/combat formation and its CIC infrastructure.
I.e. they constitute significant part of what makes it a combat ship.
Also 075 has the price of a frigate.
Adapted Iran-style flat tanker can be bought for a price of 056a.
It will, however, probably will be a complete mess to operate.
075 is between those two survivability points - which is a very doubtful deal when you're fighting US(UK?JMSDF?AUS?) underwater threat. Both for the crew of the ship and those trying to keep it alive - at expense of their own lives.

It always, always shall be remembered that WW2 at sea literally began with the sinking of an unsuitable ship - full fleet carrier in that case - trying to do ASW.
p.s. and yes, we don't really know true price of the 075 - especially when filled with ASW airwing.
At most you swap the dock out for more engines and makes it faster but speed is hardly a factor when its main ASW tools are helicopters.
Ships aren't lego. And trying to retain hull optimized for all wrong things for ASW is just weird honestly.

I would urge you to re-read what you just wrote and ponder over it. This is the single-most absurd thing I've read on this forum ever since joining (other being that PLARF intermediate-range ballistic missiles costs only 1 million USD).

That price is ONLY possible if PLAN is building that 075s to dirt cheap commercial standards like the dirt cheap HMS Ocean helicopter carrier that the Royal Navy build twenty years ago.

Good news for the USN & its allies then if PLAN is churning out ships to dirt cheap standards!

Good news is that the cost of the frigate mainly consists of the costs of it's weapons and electronics. Helicopter carrier obviously carries much less of these. Perhaps 054A would still be cheaper, but 052D, which is the size of a large European frigate, probably costs more than 075.

075 carries basic frigate sensor&self protection suite, way more installed power, and crucially - very extensive CIC&comm facilities for seamless connection with lots of individual units in the vicinity(not only navy/marines, but the army and air force, too), as well as high command levels and so on. As a bonus - LHDs carry substantial medical and repair/maintenance facilities, which also cost.

LHD aren't terribly expensive - but they don't come too cheap either. Importantly - this price tend to not include much of that makes warship effective.

Mistral cost in 2012 was 450kk EUR.

I am not sure whether this has been posted on this thread or not, because I have been away for 3 monthes:

I post this to get everyone's attention on 0:11, where the LCAC exit the LHD (or might be LPD) with a ZTZ96A loaded. This is currently the picture evidence of the heaviest load the LCAC has carried exiting from the LHD/LPD. Screen shot below:

Good catch and its a video

and I believe its the first time we have seen a MBT loaded into the LCAC leaving or entering the well deck

there is that old photo where a MBT is loaded onto the LCAC however its a photo with no LPD in sight

we are looking at 40+ tons

That's because it is built to the same cheap commercial standards as Royal Navy's former Helicopter Carrier HMS Ocean.

I mean even a 1,00,000t displacement full-sized conventionally-powered not-EMALS Supercarrier can be built for around $1.25-1.5 billion if you build it to cheap commercial standards but it will be of no use in wartime against near-peer or peer enemies when your assets are *expected* to take a few enemy hits.
