I was just reading up on the two shows on wiki, they both are old, SG1 has been going on for 10 years and Star Trek for even longer...
Which do you like?

Thank god for Wikipedia. I learned all about BattleStar Galactica, Babylon 5, Firefly and all that good stuff without watching any of the shows

That's how I got through the Enderverse and other fine literature too :D

Good to know we have some Sci fi fans in here!
I love firefly, too bad it got cancelled so early, i did get into star trek for some time, but i guess my favourite at the moment is stargate, its not like i dislike star trek, i just like stargate a whole lot more :)

Firefly rocked. It was like a live action anime in some senses. It was a style I normaly only see in that medium, which is good. Plus, as my quote indicates, Mal is my god.

Stargate is pretty cool. I like how it melds Military Reality with Science-Fiction (if not always accurate). Richard Dean Anderson was cool, and still is. The new cat's are pretty decent too, mind you.

Star-Treck is still one of my favorites though. I love how it makes this whole universe around what is esentaly a political commentary peice. Though it makes one thing very clear that kind of gets me a little bit irked: The Galaxy is just like Earth! Only Bigger!

I've actually never seen Stargate, or the original Star Trek series, just the spin-offs which I didn't enjoy much. Science fiction-wise the series I enjoyed the most aside from Star Wars was Battlestar Galactica, especially its newest reincarnation...

IT'S GOOD STUFF. Of course it draws parallels to the Iraqi insurgency as well, which is always cool. It takes some time for people to figure out why the insurgents are called "freedom fighters" over there, and a show like this helps. If you've never seen Battlestar Galactica, YOU SHOULD.

Well, one could also say it takes it's paralells from any number of the Resistance fighters under Nazi tyrany. Or, even the Terminator series.

But the inclusion of Cylon Suicide Bombers was quite intresting.

Stargate SG-1 steals too many ideas from Star Trek. In the beginning it was really laughable. The Jafa (I know I'm probably spelling that wrong) cobra head dresses reminded me of Dark Helmet from Spaceballs.

Battlestar Galactica... Great special effects but personally I can't stand how eveything about their society is too much like the US. They drive Hummers too? Too much money spent on the effects I guess. Plus they say there will never be aliens species in this new version.

Firefly... wasn't on long enough to give an opinion. The movie seemed like they wanted to cram everything they couldn't do in the TV show into 2 hours. I was getting tired of the little girls that can kick butt theme. Make it believable at least.

Star Trek... Great series(s) overall but ran out of gas simply because too many ethics, morals, rules and laws holding it down which why every new series they came up with wasn't really that new afterall. Did you hear that the creator of Babylon 5 wants to revamp the entire franchise and make a series that's blurs the line between right and wrong? But it sounds like the people behind Star Trek will never allow that to happen.

Star Wars... probably the most diverse universe where they can mine so many different stories. George Lucas is coming out with a TV series set between episodes 3 and 4. Big problem is that it limits what they can do because of an already established history. Which was the problem with Star Trek: Enterprise where history kept them in a cage. Lucas should just start off where the movies ended so new ideas can come into the mix.

I know most of you fellows are young(I'm 53) and don't know but Lucas originally wanted to make a total of 9 Star Wars movies. That of course after the sucess of the first one. He spent a lot of time developing story lines and characters. Lots of time. He is probally the most important filmmaker of all time. Evertime you see a speical effects movie or play a greatly graphic video thank George Lucas.

Star Wars saga would be my favorite. I remember taking my oldest son, who is now thirty, to the original films. That was awesome. I still remember seeing them in a real theater. Not on a Tv. If you have never seen the episodes IV, V & VI on the BIG screen You've really never seen them. If you ever have a chance to see them on the big screen..watch them....

I remember watching the original Star Trek series(1966) on Tv when I was a teenager. I loved that show. I watch the re-runs when ever I can catch them. I really thought "Deep Space 9" was the best show. Period. "Enterprise" was good also.

Battlestar Galatica is a good show. To bad I don't have Sci-fi channel on my cable system. Dunno why.

I never liked Stargate or Bablyon 5. I just don't get it.
