Well Now you have to Catch up. They just announced the new Doctor today.

I find this humorous as a years ago There was a Dr. Who Parody called The Curse of Fatal Death where the Doctor is forced to Regenerate 4 times due to a running gag. Starting with Rowan Atkinson as a a 9th Doctor. and Landing on a 13th who bares a resemblance in Hair, eye and physical description although a bit more mature.
I remember that spoof well. It's on youtube. The actress you are thinking of is Joanna Lumley, famous in the 70s for playing Purdey in 'The New Avengers, and now something of a National Icon in the UK after starring in 'Absolutely Fabulous':navg18.jpg joanna lumley 3.jpg .

I reckon there is greater interest in who plays the role of Dr Who than the series itself.

I find it absolutely puzzling that some people get upset about having a female Doctor. There have been numerous female time lords, some good and some evil. Why can't the Doctor be female? This is the 21st century, people!

what I'm wondering is who she will pick as her companion, a gal vs. a guy? I would assume it would be a guy...

Technically, the Doctor isn't human so it can take on the human form of either sex, no lore violated here...but people haven't forgot how Marvel ruined their comic lines because they've to make those pesky SJWs go away, so....well, this is a touchy era, y'know...

Well, what form the time lords want to take on is a conscious or subconscious choice made by the time lords themselves. I think they will take some time in the first few episodes to explain why the Doctor decides to take on a female form.

Apparently her companion is going to be an older man, Actor, comedian and game show host Bradley Walsh. It seems the dynamic of male to female isn't going to change regarding age difference, the 'girl' still has to be younger than the 'man'. She's 35, he's 57!bradleywalsh-920x584.jpg

I've no problem with female doctors. popeye's doctor is female.. in fact she is a Muslim from Bangladesh. She is an excellent doctor.
