Star Wars & Sc-Fi Talk

I'm confused at first with the New Star Wars as to the character Finn. I thought they are all supposed to be clones (DNA from Boba Fett I believe). And how come the First Order/Empire never recruits any alien species and the officers (high ranking ones) has a British accent?;):D

Lore wise, the empire started recruiting other people sometime between III and IV after some kind of rebellion from the clone makers, who grew their own army loyal to themselves instead of the empire. Also since the clones matured twice as fast as the average human to be combat ready sooner, they also aged faster as a result. By around this time, any clones from the clone wars are either too old to fight anyway, or might just be teachers in academies or something.

As for being human only, the empire is basically said to be outright racist, and there were some books in the expanded universe that covered imperial remnants either being forced to recruit aliens to bolster their ranks, or some other such plot point.

In the movie General Hux mentions going back to clones. Finn was taken as a baby from his parents as opposed to the clones. Was that different from the period where episodes 4 through 6 took place? In Episode 7, it sounded as if it was a new thing to snatch babies from their parents.

In A new hope Luke mentions that one of his friends, Biggs Darklighter was leaving for the Imperial academy and that he wanted to go. Of course Bigg then showed up in the Rebellion.
The Clone army for all the Gee Whiz factor had three fundamental flaws.

1st without genetic diversity any population is doomed to illness and death. a few minutes in a suitably scifi rebel genetics lab cooking up a smart virus and presto Clone genocide.
2nd The Clones came from a singular Source, If the Clone growers turned on you, You loose new troops. For Palpatine's needs at the start of the Empire he needed a Army from which to build his empire.
3rd What do you do with the old clones? Millions of the same man over and over... Do you give them rights and Retirement? do you kill them off? Basically you hit a point of decay much like what happened to sparta.

To expand beyond the first few generations the Emperor needed fresh troops and a diverse population growth. So he may have kept some of the old Clones around as trainers and more and more senior officers but eventually he used their tech to found a more traditional Army and Navy. Then as The Emperor fell and his Successor and the First Order rose, They adopted the Janissary model with strict indoctrination at birth.

Here are some videos on the history of the clones and stormtroopers much of it is based on the EU and official Stars Wars canon.

On the tv show "Rebels"(Official Canon Rebels takes place about 5yrs before Episode 4)the Empire was recruiting young teenagers for the stormtrooper legions. They might have decided to start younger with training and indoctrination like the clones and Jedi did in the hopes of improving the quality and the loyalty of the stormtroopers.
