Re: Sports thread

alright, didn't catch any of the Japan - Australia game, sleeping
but I did watch the USA - Czech game, actually the Americans didn't play as badly as the scoreline indicated, but the Czechs are just a far superior side. The fluke also known as 2002 world cup probably won't happen again.

First off I must admidt I do not like soccer, futbol or what ever you want to call it. I'm 52 years old. To me and millions of other Americans it is a crashing bore...

This is what I wrote about soccer back in 2002 during the World Cup

I gotta say something, Soccer is a game for kids that aren't allowed to
play ,baseball, football or basketball. Not to mention ice hockey.

As a true patriot to our country I will root for USA Futbol Till the
bitter end of their World cup run. But thats it.

I drove a truck here in San Diego for the first 8 years after I retired
from the Navy. I never once saw kids playing a "pickup game" of soccer
outside of the barrio. Thats a fact.

Soccer has been a popular youth sport in our country for about 35 years.
Why has the sport at the professional level in this country never caught
on? Its is a crashing bore. A (most) lot of kids play it because their
parents make them. I don't want to here about "our best athlets don't play
it" Thats right. Most are African American. Soccer is, a shall I say, a
"suburban sport". There are few, if any, soccer leauges in the inner
city(Barrio excluded)

I have 3 sons 26, 22 & 14. All played sports. All were begged to play
futbol because of their speed. None did. They played the "traditional
sports" Because I let them make their own choices.

So please dont tell me the stats about how soccer is the #1 youth sport.
I repeat most kids are there because their parents want them to be.'Nuff
said!

I stand on this statement. Soccer will never be the #1 sport in the US until the top athletes in the US play it on the professional level.

The World Cup is the worlds premier sporting event. No doubt about it! Wake me up when it's over.

Re: Sports thread

I *cough cough cough* missed school yesterday to watch the game ;)
But yeah the US got destoryed... wow and they were seeded soo high in the parliamentary rounds.. they had like no defence I was wondering if the coach was just probably just yelling "kick the ball" and nothing else

The Japanese vs the Australis game was pretty funny, it seems that all the Japanese lost their morale after the Aussies scored

All I have to say about South Korea is that... they are the Asia's only hope in winning FIFA

Man France I have some money on you to kick Germany's @ss :nana:

Brazil game was ok.... I was expecting atleast 3-0 :(

Re: Sports thread

NBA Finals, Game 3 is on tonight. Miami down 2 nothing to Dallas.... any thoughts? I still can't comprehend how the Mavericks aren't getting melted by the Heat.

Re: Sports thread

australia was amazing, 3 goals in the last 6min. and that japanese goal shouldn't have even counted. they pushed the goalie away!

france and brazil are all disappointing. especially the france-switzerland game. 0-0, not a single goal. many blame it on the referee for not calling that hand ball (which could result in a penalty kick). brazil on the other hand at least got 1 goal. but they were against croatia... they did not show their aggressive side, instead they chose defensive tactics.

i had no idea that US was ranked as the 5th in the world... wth, im sure most americans are surprised as well. also Czech is the 2nd?! that ranking system is really weird.

Well I must admit that I thought that we will lose hard against Brazil. But we played great defense and Brazil joust didn’t have too many chances (Kaka pretty much f….. our defenses in 44 minute of the game and scored simply beautiful goal).
Brazil played quite defensive (you can’t see that weary often) and basically we played better in second half but we joust didn’t have luck…

Jason Terry is good, but if he pass some more ball he will do better.

last night's game with maimi is just crap. 3rd quater we were up by like 12. then 4th quater we just gave away...lost by 2 point....

Re: Sports thread

My daily analysis:
That kaka goal was amazing.
If Germany did not score, I would've gone mad.
Poland stinks, it's an insult to me that I have to watch them play
South Koreans are going no where
Shaq is done!
Wade is amazing!
The entire Dallas team needs face transplants!
And of course, my Blue Jays! They need a lot of pitching help.
