I'd take the Jags.. but not the Raiders. even ex-Charger fans, like myself, hate the Raiders...But honestly I would not be surprised. It would be a long shot for any team to move to SD. Any team moving to SD would want a new stadium. And after 15 years of talking and dealing with the Spanos family..it ain't happenin'!!!

In LA the Chargers won't be playing in the Coliseum or Rose Bowl..but the tiny Stub Hub center seating only 27,000..until they can move into the new Rams stadium in Inglewood.

Don't give up hope. Houston football fans has to wait like ten years to bring the expansion Houston Texans into our city. San Diego got a good television market it should be able to attract some other team owners.

Yea.. there are folks in SD thinking that SD can snatch the Jacksonville Jaguars..don't know about that..

Some member at skyscrapercity got me in a tizzy...

Ahemmm...

The Spanos family did nothing for the Chargers but manage them poorly in the 33 years they've owned them. They fired a coach that won 14 games in a 16 game season. The General manangers they hired should have been managing McDonalds instead of an NFL team. The Chargers under the Spanos Family in 33 years of ownership fielded some very bad teams that only went to the playoff 9 times....but we loyal fans stuck with the Chargers thru thin & thin..I moved from San Diego in 2004 and still to this day am a SAN DIEGO CHARGERS FAN.

And the Spanos family had nothing to do with the establishment of the SAN DIEGO CHARGERS .. Barron Hilton did. Mr Hilton named the club and moved them to SD from LA after the 1960 AFL season..

How can you sign anything so silly. First, it's Spanos' brand; he's the one who built it with his own money decade after decade.

Second, SD did squat for decades other than vituperate the man and mumble about deals that went nowhere. There were 100 "let him f'ing go" and "not a penny for billionaires" for every "keep the Chargers".

Third, the voters TURNED DOWN by an overwhelming majority a deal to keep the team that the city and politicos supported.

I suppose "Dodgers" belongs to Brooklyn? "Raiders" belongs to Oakland? "Braves" belongs to Milwaukee? This is the grossest form of eminent domain I've ever heard of; there's no public benefit involved and (it goes without saying) no payment.

I dont understand. With Spanos out of the picture any new team might be open to any deal put up by the city.

Maybe in New Zealand but not in the US. The NFL teams all want new stadiums. Last year the Rams left St Louis because they wanted a new stadium. Their stadium in St Louis is a dome and only 21 years old.

In Atlanta the owner of the Falcons demanded a new stadium and got it. His old stadium,a dome, is only 24 years old.

Any team wanting to move to San Diego will DEMAND a new state of the art stadium. That's just how it is.

Contrast that with the Uk Soccer where the big clubs like Man United own their own staudium. Or the Staudium is owned by the Clubs "Holding Company"

What would happen if all the NFA clubs got together and declared a salary as well as reducing the salary paid to the players by 30%.
The savings would be pooled to build stadiums owned by the clubs.
If the players got sulky and refused to play, theres little other areas they can transfer their skills to.

NFA? Did you mean NFL.. Well the clubs could not cut the players salary's. Nope. The players have a union. A 30% pay cut would cause the players to go on strike or boycott.

Not all stadiums in the NFL are built with public funds..most are.

Yes I meant NFL.

Heres something quite strange, while playing professional sports in America for many of our budding players in baseball and basketball is the dream, a. couple of our ball players have made on to/or knocking on the doors of the big league base ball and basket ball, none of our rugby players have voiced any desire to play NFL.

An attempt to increase interest in NFL this year buy having two touring teams made up of top players fell flat through lack of interest.
Many of you folks make much of your offensive players running skills.I think it looks good because of the assists in shepherding and blocking the ball carriers. In rugby that is not allowed to happen

No way am I going to argue Rugby Vs American football. American football is unique to the US and in Canada they play a similar form of football.
