Malaysia doesnt have WS-2s, but we have Brazillian Astros-2 with 80km range. And yes..it is also a fantasy of some Malaysians to lob these at Singapore

But, knowing the Singaporeans, I suspect they are pretty well prepared for such (very unlikely) senario.

How many waves do they prepare to take? F-15SGs are probablly not going to be un-molested themselves. and Singapore is not the only country who has jammers.

WS-2 is on the open market and technology is transfered all over the place.
they can buy it from turkey if they like. if they like Russia would prob sell them some Rocket artillery and Iskanders.

Think need to wake everybody up on this...

While yes there has been some bad blood between Singapore-Malaysia-Indonesia, but over the last decade a change in leadership leads to the disputes between them (at least with Singapore) are whittling down, if not by UN tribunal verdict that recognized by all parties or going through the process.

And Singapore have no territorial disputes with China, though by all accounts China is still decades away from reaching the critical mass that'd award it the respect-in-fear position to be the effective power broker in the region, thus no problem placing chips on the US side.

And the truth is that Malaysia knows too well it's better to have it "the way it is now" with Singapore-Singapore provides job for Malaysians that pays better than they could get at home, plus the strong S$ helps in trade (nobody have any illusion as to where Singapore gets their fresh food imports from, that's one thing), mostly just those low-life called "politicians" give people the wrong ideas during election ideas, and fortunately for Malaysians such tricks don't work so well now.

It is Malaysia that has territorial dispute with China over the South China Sea, but its current strength against such a vast holdings they already have, things not looking good for them either.

But everybody needs to "keep up the appearance" so to speak, y'know.

MyRYum u are correct re: Thailand vs Cambodia over the temple issue, as well as their refusal of arbitration by anyone. ASEAN does'nt impose its member countries to accept its offer of arbitration, as the Group is democratic and not dictatorial. Btw, the "shooting" has stopped and PM Hun Sen and the new Thai PM are expected to settle the matter in a civilised way. As for paintgun and junior member, their comments are really "painted" and "junior" respectively, and not serious or worth commenting in this thread/forum website.

Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering signed a contract to build three submarines for the Indonesian navy on Tuesday.

The contract calls for DSME to build three 1,400-ton submarines for the Indonesian navy for a total of $1.1 billion, making the contract the largest single defense contract to be awarded to a Korean firm.

With the addition of the latest contract, the value of Korea’s defense exports so far this year has been pushed up to $2.4 billion, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration said. This year’s defense export figure is more than double that recorded last year.

...if SG army ever decides to invade MY, they'd line up at the gas station before the crossing and make sure all their tanks are at least 75% full before they'd be permitted to cross in fear of losing tax revenue to cheap MY gas. While in MY, they'd park their military vehicles next to all the other cars with SG plates at large shopping centers in JB, malls filled with SG shoppers and MY employees selling fake brand name products. After failing to encounter Sultan Abu Bakar's famed Royal Johor Guards (they were busy with their 5 daily meals), the SG forces stop to ask for directions, and were baffled when the locals respond that they weren't sure who their King was, or which Sultan or Raja is the current King. The SG forces decide to turn back and stop by a convenience store to purchase cigarettes. Every solider buys 1 pack of cigarettes and remove 1 cigarette per pack to give to some random uncle standing by the store to dodge SG import duty on tobacco products. Despite the fact that they probably could've smuggled a few carton of cigs in their military vehicles, every solider proved to be a good law abiding SG citizen on their way back home.

I agree with Red Sword, let's have more news than assumed scenarios. Paintgun correctly substantiated that the Indonesian Navy is purchasing new submarines from the ROK. I assumed this is in line with the TNI-AL's fleet upgrading. BTW, I read in the local newspapers that the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) welcomed the recent visit by the two PLA-N ships who refueled and victualled at its Changi Naval Base. I for one believe in the "Brotherhood of all Sailors", in so far as there is cooperation and avoidence of insults or being antagonistic to each other. May 2012 be a good & safe year for all sailors and their families

I don't know where to put this bit of news. Finnish customs officials intercepted 160 Patriot missiles and other explosives officially headed to Shanghai. A lot of questions come to mind. First, did the journalist make a mistake in labeling them Patriot missiles, because that is a very large and expensive missile by SAM standards and not something easily "lost" by a military looking to make some extra cash. Second, the real destination is probably not China because China has no need for the missile other than a couple to examine. There would be no reason for China to buy 160 SAMs for study and replication when only a couple will do. Third, that begs the question, who were they destined for? Lebanon or Iran, perhaps because they are under arms embargoes, but it still seems weird to be buying Western missiles when those countries could buy Russian or Chinese missiles for less money and fewer legal issues.

The most interesting parts are yet to come - UK flagged ship, did some loading / unloading at Germany, while the previous two countries didn't found out anything, it was Finnish authority pound the ship, with manifest (which is only a piece of paper) indicating "bound to Shanghai" - 160 explosives, 69 of them are "surface-to-air missiles", and like many southeast asian countries people calls toothpaste simply as "colegate" (the brand, I may have a typo) because they only knows "colegate" and none other, and many people of this forum calls transparent tape as "scrochtape" (I may have a typo) as if that's the universal brand of those tape that sticks - the newspaper title, calls the SAM "Patriot missiles" more like it's the universal brand of "you know, those rockets that hits Migs (Mig being a universal brand of aircraft)".

I pay sincere respect to Geographer, for when the world is ready to inspect another China's plot / scheme because the media told you so, you made independent analysis and point out that "the real destination is probably not China...".

"Bound for Shanghai" is not equivalent to "destination at Shanghai", but to most who only have enough IQ to read the first paragraph it's all that needed to mislead them...goods could be bound for Shanghai and the last port to call on this leg could be bound for Shanghai, but there's no saying the goods will be transferred to another ship for another location, or do that at whatever port before reaching Shanghai for that matter.

There's simply too little intel to go with. Besides, anything that's military grade would all be properly boxed, sealed and stored, not "Some of the explosives were not stored properly", unless it's those Hezbollah rockets churned out from garage.
