I heard there are news reports on PLA soldiers being virtually trained by playing computer games, with what looks like BattleField 2 (BF2) and Counter-Strike (CS). I thought BF2 is banned in China because they depicted Chinese soldiers. Anyways, some recent pictures:

How effective is this training? I don't recall seeing US soldiers being trained this way. Is it an experiment to test their effectiveness? Does China have a similar realistic simulation first-person shooter (FPS) like America's Army (AA)

, which is much realistic than either BF2 or CS? It will be better if PLA soldiers can create a PLA mod for AA and practice on that.

I think the only training you could get this is perhaps a tiny bit of knowledge.
It can also be a good way to see potential, just if they show initiative, other then that i am not sure it helps that much, as war like as games are now a days.

More like "constructive" R&R to increase the troops' computer literacy. Lots of these boys are farmers. Still, not a great use of the taxpayer's money.:(
