The FC-31 doesn't bring new capability.


F-35 has avionics that are a generation ahead of F-22. Not only is that not the case for FC-31, the FC-31 would likely have worse avionics compare to J-20. SAC has a habit of choosing suppliers only within AVIC, but these suppliers are known to be inferior to suppliers outside of AVIC.

While I really like the FC-31, and it looks like a mini Raptor, which I think is great, like the Eng, I really don't see this bird bringing anything new, other than a smaller lighter airframe that might eventually make a nice little Navy bird, and might be a great fighter to fly off the carrier. I know the Eng is a die hard Chengdu Man! and will disagree with me on this, but that's the only real hope I have for little chick.

...I think that train already left the station.

They have several years now to make a move, and yet the PLAN has not bit.

One prototye...really more like a tech demo...and the beginnings of he carrier program all over the place. The PERFECT time to build more prototypes and get them tested and ready to qualify on deck.

But they have not done so.

...and at this point I do not think they are going to do so.

That's not the case. I am simply oppose to SAC's relentless attempts in getting their hands on funding for the J-20.

Every dollar that goes to the FC-31 would be one less dollar going to procuring the J-20, which would make unit price of the latter more expensive. It would be a bad deal for the air force. It would be a bad deal for CAC. It would be a bad deal for everyone, everyone except SAC.

Thanks for the clarification Bub, I wasn't trying to put you in a box, and you know I agree that the J-20 is a very serious airplane, and I would never have had the appreciation for it that I do without your very kind and thoughtful tutelage!
