Saw that quite a while ago.
Everyone thought it was a UCAV back then because it's been so long since there's any news about FC-31.
It didn't say "new" though.
"某型试验飞机" translates to "a certain experimental aircraft".
V1 would fit that description as well.

Among all weapons, J31 will be the most influential in affecting geopolitics.
1)none of ASEAN countries (vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia) have 4th gen fighters even though they might have SU-35 down the line. and the recent US carriers in SCS still depend a lot on F18.
2)while J20 be hiding inside China, J31 will be outward bound in Carriers.
3)Enhance strategic cooperation by exporting J31 to Pakistan and Iran.

Agreed j 31 is chines mig 21 or f 16/35 equivalent.
Some thing not as capable as f15/22 but good enough to build a strong force and fulfill all your needs. It will be used by chines i larg numbers and exported in larg numbers.

Your comparisons/analogies do not make sense. How can J-31 be analogous to the MiG-21, F-16, and F-35 at the same time?
I think he meant the "low" in the high-low combination.
J31 can give F22 fits if they are sold together with ground based anti-stealth radar. Ground based anti-stealth radar with detect the F22 first and notify the J31. Then J31 fly to the interpolated intercept point for ambush.
This is a rather more optimistic statement than the J-31 deserves at this point. You forget that the F-35 will enter service before the J-31, if it even enters PLAAF service at all. And if the J-31 upsets the balance of the region too much towards China, the US may be perfectly willing to sell the F-35 to every country around China's periphery.
