The Russian military says it has successfully test-fired a submarine-launched intercontinental ballistic missile.

The Defence Ministry said the Yuri Dolgoruky nuclear-powered submarine launched the Bulava missile Monday from a submerged position in the Barents Sea. The ministry said the missile's mock warheads reached their designated targets on the opposite side of Russia — the Kura shooting range on the far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula.

The Bulava, which has been commissioned by the Russian Navy after a long cycle of development, carries six nuclear warheads and has a range of up to 9,300 kilometers (about 5,770 miles).

The Yuri Dolgoruky is the first in a series of Borei-class submarines carrying the Bulava. Russia now has three such submarines, and five more are under construction to gradually replace some of the older Soviet-built ones.

Su-30MK2

Nigeria received its first two Sukhoi Su-30MKII multi-role aircraft and will receive 10 more in 2018.

With the deliveries of 10 Su-30MKII "Flankers" in 2018, the contract will be completed by the end of next year, said Anatoliy Punchuk, deputy director of the Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation (FSMTC).

The report states that this is the MKII variant of the Su-30 which was acquired by Nigeria, which was previously not interested in the aircraft. The Nigerian Air Force is still in negotiations to buy from Pakistan (PAC) JF-17 "Thunder".

A Layered ABM System to Be Deployed In Russia

A national layered anti-ballistic missile (ABM) system will be deployed in Russia by 2025, Sergey Boev, chief designer of the missile attack warning system, reported. It has to include long-range exoatmospheric interceptor missile systems, air/space defense missile system and short-range endoatmospheric interceptor missile systems, online media outlet Free Press writes.

1. By 2025? We'll see. When was the S-350 supposed to be operational again? Or the 40N6 for the S-400?

2. "Boev justified the need to develop a layered ABM system by the threat posed by land-based Euro-ABM systems being deployed in Romania and Poland. "The launchers can be covertly converted to accommodate medium-range ballistic missiles," he said." - No. Russia is perfectly able to deploy an ABM system wherever and however it wants to given that the ABM Treaty is no mo...re. I'd like to know which Romanian, Polish, or NATO MRBM is under design that can fit an AEGIS Ashore launcher. Wait, maybe an extended range Grom-2? Maybe NATO needs to admit Ukraine to keep the Russian statement factual (or logical).

3. "Two more missiles [for the S-500], developed at the Fakel Design Bureau to intercept ballistic targets, are close in performance to the short-range interceptor missile of the A-135 Amur ABM system." - This goes back to a theory I had that the S-500 would basically be a modern version of the S-225 mobile ABM system. The S-225 used a precursor to the 53T6 GAZELLE, the endoatmospheric Novator 5Ya26, as well as a longer range, exoatmospheric Fakel 5Ya27. It wouldn't surprise me if one of these two missiles was the 40N6, as the article says some of the missiles for the S-500 were borrowed from the S-400. Perhaps the 40N6 had the performance they needed and it was taken over by the S-500.
