Ten Russian Navy ships involved in anti-terrorist operation in Syria — defense minister

The Russian Caspian flotilla warships on Friday launched 18 cruise missiles at terrorist positions in Syria hitting seven targets

MOSCOW, November 20. /TASS/. Ten ships of the Russian Navy are involved in the anti-terrorism operation in Syria, Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin on Friday.

"The naval group comprises ten ships, six of them are in the Mediterranean," the minister said.

Shoigu said the Caspian flotilla warships on Friday launched 18 cruise missiles at terrorist positions in Syria hitting seven targets.

"On November 20, the Caspian flotilla warships launched 18 cruise missiles at seven targets in the Raqqa, Idlib and Aleppo provinces of Syria. All the targets were hit," Shoigu said.

On October 7, the Caspian flotilla warships took part in an operation against the Islamic State terrorist group. They delivered a massive cruise missile strike at the IS targets in Syria from the Kalibr NK sea-based complex from the Caspian Sea water area.

Russia has banned the Islamic State in its territory as an extremist terrorist organization.

"The Russian Company Zala Aero (subdivision of Kalashnikov Concern) presented a new ZALA-421-16E5 tactical operation unmanned aerial reconnaissance system at Interpolitex 2015, the International Exhibition of Homeland Security in Moscow. This unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has great autonomy and mobility. According to its developers, the unmanned aerial vehicle /UAV/ comprised by the system features an outstanding endurance and high mobility. The UAV flight duration is 6-7 hours, the flight range up to 150 km, the monitored area exceeds 21,000 sq km from a single launch site.

ZALA 421-16E5 is developed using a unique technology of complete duplication of the key systems responsible for reliability and quality of mission performance. Specifically for this purpose a new type of engine has been developed with a built-in self-diagnostics system and UAV engine controller. All of the craft’s systems are controlled via digital buses, which is an innovative trend in the world’s aircraft construction.

The aircraft design envisions compartments for installing dedicated equipment weighing up to 5 kg.

system from an unprepared site which is an advantage compared to UAVs that need airdrome basing facilities. A new landing system has been developed for safe landing and complete safety of the onboard equipment."

"The Russian military is set to test the Yabhon United 40 medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV built by the United Arab Emirates’ Adcom Systems." - This was released in late 2014. when that "$US 9 billion UAV deal" was reported, however what is curious to me, is fact Adcom Systems had on their site back then in list of possible missions for Yahbon "strike missions".

The Yak-130 lost the recent tender of the Russian air force on a prospective strike aircraft. According to a source in the Russian aviation industry, "requirements primarily for booking and defence systems was too high for the plane light class". The tender was won by the deep draft of the modernized su-25 weight of 19.5 tons, which is almost two times higher than that of the Yak-130.

However, Irkut continues work on single combat version of the aircraft, relying on export customers, as well as the fact that the Russian air force will purchase a

aircraft. Single seat modification of the Yak-130 has an index of the Yak-133, were previously known double Yak-131 and supersonic Yak-135. The first prototype of the Yak-133 will be built in 2014

Changes to the air-frame will be insignificant, the rear pilot's seat will be replaced by an additional fuel tank and other accessories. The engines will be increased capacity - up to 27.45 kN each, compared with the current thrust of 24.51 kN.

On impact modification are also installed radar and electro-optical sighting system. According to Konstantin Popovich, it is considered as a variant of the onboard radar and radar in pod. To receive proposals on three Russian companies: "Corporation Fazotron-NIIR", "

. Tikhomirov "Holding and" Leninist ".

FC-130 radar development "Phazotron" (the index to remain unchanged in spite of the modification) may be millimeter range to find land targets, multifunction radar 30 mm range with slot antenna or radar 30mm range AESA. The last option is the most perfect and most expensive: AESA radar can cost about 10% of the total cost of the aircraft, twice the cost of other systems.

Suspended optoelectronic container for the Yak-130 is being developed on the basis of the CPR SPC modifications created for Indian MiG-29K.

These new sensors allow the attack modification of the Yak-130 used ant-radar / anti-ship missile X-31 and the new Russian missiles

will include medium-range missiles R-77m. Popovic stressed, stability and handling of the Yak-130 allow the use of such weapons.

So Yak 135 - supersonic and with AAM with range 110km and relatively cheap in maintenance. I believe that this is a good prospects on international market and for RuAF not bad choice either for homeland defense.

Maybe a temporary replacement for the Argentine Mirage III.

Crashed KH-101 shows that it's less impressive than what people estimated before.

No attempts made to hide it's engine from radar and body is all aluminium without any sort of RAM coating according to Syrians who inspected it from close. Syrians also report that these missiles are very inaccurate and instead of striking their targets like western missiles it glides near the target like V-1 missiles.
