Russia sells S-400 systems to China

what game changer for Taiwan? lol as it stands right now it already IS a game changer. I don;t think the S400 is going to tip any balance of power to the Chinese side. HQ9s can be placed along the coast and take down most things coming out of Taiwan. China doesn;t need S400 to do that.

Like I said in my earlier posting, I do not believe the S400 offers any significant leap in SAM technologies which the Chinese currently do not possess already. It probably came about with the gas deal that they signed.

As to Russia vs China rocket tech it's going to probably lead down a path of no win situation on either side of the argument. . I think both sides are right and both are wrong.

IMHO I do think that Russia do have a slight advantage in terms of knowledgebase and technical expertise over China in terms of rocketry HOWEVER that is only a small piece of the whole system. China has an advantage in terms of manufacturing capability, infrastructure and resources.

If China is smart they'll do what the US did post WWII with the German geniuses .. kidnap a bunch of Russian rocket scientist ;) hehehehe

Still...no official government announcement in any of the volumous reports provided.

That's what I mean.

Words like..."According to a report on the Russian business channel RBK TV" and referring to a so-called agreement last April...in 2014.

That's when we first heard of it...and now it seems to be being regurgitated.

You would think in that time there would be one official governmental announcement by one side or the other.

And that's what I am asking for...again...an official announcement by either government, with a press release and government officials absolutely confirming it. Given some of the Russian announcements in the past, I am particularly looking for one from the Chinese side.

Over the last 10-15 years I have learned to take many of the so-called "announcements" like this from Russia with a grain of salt.

Not to mention the growing numbers of HQ-9 on the sea with the proliferation of Type 052C and the Type 052D and the Type 055 in the future.

As for kidnapping Russian scientist is concerned. They don't have to do that. Back in the early 1990's the Chinese got a lot of former Soviet scientists and engineers working in China on varius defense and other projects by paying them big bucks. They helped to lay the groundwork for China's solid fuel rocket systems. While the West was worried about these scientists ending up working for Iran or Iraq they were infact working in China.:D

I would also like to know if this has been actually confirmed by anyone in Chinese government? So far they haven't said anything about this.

See:

My POST above

And the one before that...

The answer seems to be no.

Unless I see something specific in the next little while, from either the Russian government or the Chinese (and particularly the Chinese)...since this so-called announcement has been out there a year now...I will close this thread until such time as an SD member can provide such documentation.

I'll give it until tomorrow for some SD member to come up with a credible, verifiable government confirmation of this sale. After that, we will let this thread hibernate (I will close the thread) until some SD member can produce one.

Moscow Times is the same news source that claimed Thailand bought 12 Su-30MKMs from Russia, China bought Su-35 & Lada from Russia, and that China is finally ready to sign the Su-35 deal in 2014 etc etc etc........... only wantchinatimes can match this kind of track record.

Jeff, please don't close this thread. It is easier to post here than to message mod to reopen the thread. If I see the news in chinese of such confirmation from government I will post it here.

Sorry, Ultra...no.

I will close it unless the verification is available.

SD prides itself on its professionalism. Making claims...over and over again, for months on end, as if though something is factual, without any official backup is not professional and reflects badly on this site.

Many of us have dedicated a decade and more to establishing this reputation for SD...we will not allow it to be tarnished irrespective of the best of intentions.

As I said, PM one of us Moderators if there is an official verification. Perhaps there will be.

It would be big news.

It just has not happened yet and there is no sense pretending it has.
