Oh, it's pretty refreshing to see a PLAN officer talking in a normal way instead of those fake 'North Korean' machine gun style.

don't think I've seen SINKEX in such detail before. these things are usually classified. but the torpedo looks to be impact fuzed rather than the usual under keel proximity fuzed. this openness, the fact the a perry frigate took a torpedo hit(impact fuzed) and remain afloat, makes me think it may be part of USN publicity campaign against LCS based frigates.

Am I right to say impact fused torpedo is less damaging than under-the-keel exploded torpedo? So the remaining afloat is not very surprising?

Yes. If you google it, there are decriptions.

It boils down to the explosion imploding and then causing empty space where there should be water. The unsupported hull then snaps into half. Then there should also be the implosion water jet shooting through the bottom of the hull to the top of the ship.

a 4000t frigate taking a torpedo hit and remain afloat is still impressive, no matter how the warhead is detonated, IMHO. a square under keel detonation would've snapped it half.
