Yesterday after work I went to my oldest Grandson's (Braedon's) Jr. High Tennis tournament. He and his team mate, Conner, won 6-3. Thery're both about to turn 14 years old. Here's a few pictures.

My wife posted this photo of me last month on facebook.. I DON"T DO Facebook.. so don't ask..

Gerry in A&W drinking a root beer float..
You look like you are doing well, my friend.

Seriously, I need to get over to A&W and get me one of those floats.

I usually take the grandkids to DQ and get a float there, along with a Chili-cheese burer.

But the A&W floats are better!

Is anyone else getting Hilton Vacation scam calls? I get one of these every few days, and it's always from a local number. I checked online and it seems to be happening to a lot of people. Obviously the number is spoofed. I'm wondering if there's anything we can do to report these scammers?

This morning I had a robo call about a vacation at a resort I took but I haven't been to any resort. I hung up before I heard anything more. The Do Not Call registry is a joke. Banks and charities I believe legally don't have to abide for some reason. A lot of calls from charities are a scam because you can tell by the lack of proper English and I'm not talking from another country. Meaning it's not non-profit and they're paying people the minimum which attracts the low educated. There was a story on Vice on their TV show about donations to the Haiti earthquake. They supposedly had someone do the accounting and calculated that one penny out of every dollar actually served a victim of the earthquake. So 99% of the money donated went to "administrative costs" and contracts awarded to companies for profit. They showed how Samsung got money from donations so they could build a factory on Haiti that was far away from the earthquake struck area and no earthquake victims were employed. And the factory was already being planned before the earthquake struck.

I have never believed in charities. I will happily help someone I know who is in need, but I am not going to waste my money on a charity.

I once worked at a company whose client was the Ontario March of Dimes. Because they're a non-profit organization, they have to spend all their revenue at the end of the fiscal year. So guess what they did? They ordered tens of thousands of dollars worth of computers from us and just left it sitting there. It was still there when I left the company.

I think charities who help with people's immediate basic needs are worth supporting and it's easy to verify where their resources go, anything beyond that gets complicated in several ways very quickly.
