PRC/PLAN Laser and Rail Gun Development Thread

Of course it will not venture above US skies but not the way you wrote.

GaoFen-4 is a geostationary satellite in high orbit so it will always be above PRC skies.
It's not a spy satellite.
Moving orbits are more difficult then you think and requires a large amount of fuel, coordination so it doesn't hit anything else and is in a relatively low orbit which makes it expendable after four or five years since gravity and drag will eventually pull it out of it's orbit.
How much fuel it costs depends how fast you want to change your position. Also a geostationary satellite is not in a relatively low orbit.

The smoke could be visualization aid. I see yellow light . I am not sure .It is not Chinese because PBS

the pbs in the link just means it is from twitter.

The original footage is from CCTV.

But I'm pretty sure it's not a laser, probably just an AP round from an AFV of some kind.

Looking at the debris of the explosion, the direction of the shot should be from the left side of the footage.

not necessarily, the object being shot isn't exactly a single solid structure but rather a vehicle made up of lots of hinges and individual parts like doors and such. Depending on the type of ammunition and the exact location of the shot, I think having the source of the fire come from the right side of the footage makes sense, considering the debris which is flying off seems to the door.

Also, I think there's a CCTV clip which this is a part of, which shows it is part of a PTL02 anti tank gun exercise.

It could be a missile with no explosive warhead and the explosion is secondary.

You don't see with the naked eye a rocket flying with an RPG. Something bigger than an RPG would probably have even more kinetic speed.

I hate to link directly to mil.sina, but I can't find a video clip of the original footage anywhere yet, but it's part of a video about a PTL02 exercise.

It's not a rail gun or laser or anything -- that gif should never have been posted in this thread to begin with, it's getting people too excited.
