PRC/PLA 2015 Victory Parade Thread

Don't be surprised if that parade does not get massively rethought and redesigned after Tianjin. If its not led by a column of firefighters, I will be amazed. A purely military parade will not go over well right now.

The Tianjin industrial explosion, mostly likely an accident, has absolutely nothing to do with WW2. It makes zero sense to adjust anything at all in the WW2 victory parade due to an unrelated industrial incident/accident.

Yes, the photos are hard to come by. I have just this one collage photo of the armor formations at the dress rehearsal. The naval blue camouflage pattern seems new.

You got to be kidding me that they still show off the DF-5. In reality those toys would most likely be taken out by B-1B and B-2s even before they lift off their silos.

Toy? DF-5 is more like relic compare with all the other newer gears that they're going to parade next month (the last time they hauled that out on parade was 1984). Some at FYJS laughed that it must be some sort of nostalgia on the part of the leadership, but nobody can give a reasonable educated guess, think we've to wait for the full dress rehearsal later this month - with clock's ticking that has to be next week at the latest - to have a sneak peek at the full compliment of the vehicular formations.

Could they be doing some kind of chronological thing, like "this is what we had 30 years ago, 20 years ago, 10 years ago aaaaaannnnd... now!"

I think they are parading these as a nostalgic look-back. I wouldn't be surprised if there will be formations of vehicles that were in service decades back and perhaps even some troops marching in old style uniforms.

This is a parade to commemorate history after all.

If the Russians trotted out some ancient kit and old uniforms for their parade earlier this year, I don't see why the Chinese wouldn't do the same.

But the DF-5 is a 1970s/80s weapon and has nothing to do with Sino-Japanese War. Do you mean parading the ideas like "we have the ability to smoke you since the 70s"? To me the DF-5 is a symbol of Cold War against both the USSR and U.S.

Well Russia paraded RS-24 ICBMs during their Victory Day parade earlier in the year but they didn't have it during WW2 so why shouldn't China parade the DF-5 while yes I agree with you they're outdated they still have some use as a deterrent and if you say it has nothing to do with the Second Sino-Japanese War then by that same logic almost everything China is parading won't make sense since Type 99 tanks weren't in WW2.

I was thinking that either you parade something that has to do with WWII, or you parade your newest toys to show off you national defense capabilities. That is what Russia does: only historical ones or newest ones, nothing in between. As with DF-5, that is something "in between," so unless we are talking about DF-5Bs, I don't get the logic of parading a first generation ICBM.
