Sorry, once again back to an "old" topic !!

Does anyone have some pictures of the WS-6 turbofan .... and some more information regarding the following engines:

1. why the WS-6 finally failed when just in 1981 a thrust of 122 kN was reached ??? (source: China Today - Aviation Industry; p. 220)
2. No. 4 lift fan
3. Type "814" suggested for the DF-113 ... and what was the "core" for that type ??

I started for this topic two similar treads - maybe You would like to take part !

As there are some very good informations on the WS-6 so far in these two teads ... I would like to go back to the other two engines !

1) Does anyone have an idea what kind of engines was core or bases for the “Type-814†engine suggested to power the TF-113 ?? Going back just one project before, the TF-107 was to be powered by two engines called “Hong Qui-2†(= “Red Flag-2â€). This was the second indigenous turbojet designed by the Shenyang Aeroengine Design Office (SADO) following the initial success of the PF-1A developed for the JJ-1. It was to have a projected thrust of 49 kN with approximately 50% more power than the original WP-6. How this was to be reached is not clear, but its design was frozen by the end of 1958 with an anticipated production start in 1959. Early ground test runs seem to have been successful or at least quite promising when it was once again decided by higher level authorities to stop all development work on the engine and the fighter itself from November 1859. The “TF-107†and its “Hong Qui-2†were replaced by the “Type-814†and the TF-113.
My question now is: If you compare both fighters and their projected performance the TF-107 had a thrust of about 98kN (from two engines) … as the TF-113 was much aimed for even higher performance and only powered by one engine, this “beast†had to be in the performance class of about 100-110 kN. As far as I know there was no engine available with this rating, but what was the core for the development of the “Type-814†??? In spite of the engines in China under development during that time one can only guess what engines formed the basis of this “Type-814â€. One possibility might be the WP-8 which powers the H-6 bombers. With a thrust of about (???) 93 kN the Chinese licensed Mikulin RD-3M engine would clearly fit in the required class of engine, but for a fighter it was surly not suitable to be used in unmodified form as it surely required an afterburner. This again seems even more unrealistic given the development timeframe of the suggested DF-113. The other thing what stands against this engine are its dimensions with a maximum diameter of 1,40 m and a weight of 3100 kg. So, what was the “core†of the “Type-814†??? Can we only speculate ??? Was there any other suitable engine which is not known or maybe still classified ???

Some sources indicated that the engine (designated 912,probably modified WP-6C) and No.4 LiftFan project began in late 1969 ,designed to power the J-6 VTOL version. It was inevitably terminated after "9.13" Event, 1971.

Hmm ... what "9.13" Event, 1971 ???? ... and what's the Type 912 ??? Was this no. 4 liftfan also a derivate of the WP-6 ??? … Any ideas ???

Once again, THANK you all

Deino :)

I've come agros to your inquries and sadly ihave to confess that you'll proply find no help from here...unless some of our members want's to supraise us positively...

But i share you interest, exspecially whit the supposed V/STOL desing, do you (or anyone else) have any additional info about what sort of plane it would have been? And is that lift-fan system similar that is fitted whit JSF. If is, Could chinese been on the right track developing V/STOL engines right from the start comaring to Soviets crumble whit the liftjets...

Also WS-6 is interesting, where it is based and when the project was started? I'm extremely interested on all prototype projects of all countryes, but right now excpesially about chinese prototype/proposed aircrafts, engines and other aviation projects. I've noticed that you share the same enthusiazism (based on your threads in China-defence forum) so perhaps we could start spesific thread about chinese aviation projects. To get all information out on the open and increase the level of discussion in here...
