Isn't this just a standard (if a little stretched) Y-7? There's no bulge underneath the wings on this photo as there is on the MPA model...

Submarine protection? Looking for enemy submarines while shooting at things that will threat one's own submarines?

When it chances upon another MPA, you can be sure the Y-7 is suitably equipped.

The guy who originally did the pictures tried to compare it to a known Y-7 MPA model, but I think the actual plane was introduced as MA-600 on CCTV.

Agree! If you compare the model and the real thing carefully, you'll find that the nose section of the two things are different.

I don't think the Chinese have a torpedo that is suitable and modern enough that can be airdropped from the heights required off a MPA... the only one that is perhaps suitable is the Yu-6, but that's a fairly dated torpedo already.

YU-6 is actually a fairly new torpedo, we have never seen it in service until one to two years ago.
