"Our" paramilitary corps??? Friend with my magical IP locater I found out that you do not live in the PRC. My IP locater says > You are located in KITCHENER, Ontario, Canada.

Anyway..I wonder if the US will allow those same paramilitary forces to escort the flame? We shall see. On the news this evening I saw some pro-Tibet demonstrators(hippies) taking lessons in San Francisco on civil disobedience. Intresting. I am really looking foward to what shakes out tomorrow in San Francisco.

There are supposed to be around 10,000 people showing up. Probably more, with all the curious passerbys, etc. And it is San Francisco. China could not have picked a worse place to run the torch through. Possibly the most liberal city in the nation, with a population of people intrested in the issue and very used to protesting. I expect a repeat of Paris and London. Did anyone see those guys up on the Golden Gate bridge? They climbed it and hung a Free Tibet/Human Rights banner from the cables.

The US doesn't have a paramilitary corps - what Popeye said. :)

I'm a bit concerned that they weren't properly briefed/trained. In London sometimes they acted like they were the Police. But they're not - they're civilians. Even if they're supposed to look after the flame they need to let the authorities deal with protestors.

I hope from now on they keep within their remit.

Link here on the guards - I hope it's suitable for the forum.

Pfft. These professionals who are doing their jobs of ensuring the smooth ceremony of the olympic flame run are called thugs while the "nonviolent" anarchists who attack flame carriers in wheelchairs are put on a pedestal. That is BS. Maybe now you will understand why Chinese have a completely different worldview from many westerners. They see this BS and feel insulted and alienated from the so called lofty western values.
Maybe if the LOUSY local police can do a better job, the flame attendants wouldn't be so busy.
And since when is it the place of moderators to "Own" forum members and question their nationality? Can it not be possible that Mr. Rising is in Canada on a temporary basis, say, for studying?

Popeye, definitely you are not Chinese. Since this is a Sinodefence site, and since you are non-Chinese, you don't need to respond to my wording "our paramilitary corp". Besides, I didn't ask for your respond either. We Chinese, no matter where we are, still have a very strong feelings for our "祖国". The recent incident in Tibet shows us, both Chinese back home and Chinese overseas, that Westerners are nothing but hypocrites. Prior to the incident, they always talked about human rights, rules of law, and unbiased news reporting. After the event, they intentionally twisted the news to tarnish China and Chinese people image. Their evil intention is prevent China from rising peacefully. Your people's human rights and rules of law are to have the rights set houses, cars on fire, and attack innocent civiliants. So do not criticize what I can and cannot write.

I don't think this conversation is going towards a right direction.

Honestly Popeye is one of the few more aware westerners. Although the same could not be said to the rest of the general population.

ps: A lot of the Chinese who have been living over seas still consider themselves as Chinese citizen. In Canada there are many Americans who decide to become a Canadian citizen just for the sake of convenience (marriage, job ect) still think and talk like Americans.

To Rising China: I share your feeling on this issue. However, bd Popeye is one of the most valued members (and moderators) of this forum, so you'd better show some respect. Also I think you need to be able to handle a joke, as I don't think he was that serious. And please stop using words like "we Chinese", since you cannot speak on behalf of all Chinese.
