PLA Small arms

i don't think the type 87A is that much better than the 95. Give it some time, some of the problems with its reliability, awkardness should be fixed given some time in service. Plus it starts a family distinctly Chinese small arms moving away from old Soviet ideology in rifle design.

But actually some of the Senior officers in PLA are not completely happy with Type-95's accuracy and overall performance.

Soviet ideology?

I mean look obout what you got? Small cartdrige like soviets 5.45x39/5.8x42

Similar gun action...and damn the latest weapon designed is a whoopsy daizy AEK 971 with VZ 2000 parts on it. Damn you got the chinese sooo much far away from soviet/warpact development ;) .

lets compare a type 87A with an ak-47...
87a features plastic components like the magazine
a redesigned lighter stock
completely redesigned barrel which helps cool
5.8mm bullets

ak-47
wood stoch and barrel assembly
7.62 ammo
but still very good...

are you familiar with the south african vektor CR-21? Go look at it and tell me if it's an AK-47 or not. The fact is, it's an AK-47 modification.

The gist of the story, you can't judge how different a gun is by looking at it from the outside, unless one is in conventional layout while the other is bullpup. You need the "action" of the rifle.

That is... intruiging and encouraging. That armored vehicle clearly displays the PLA star and the uniforms the soldiers wear seem consistent with standard PLA combat dress.

The gun itself looks similar to the K-11 and the XM-29 OICW, but that isn't a bad thing -- I personally feel the both were very ingenious designs, integrating an assault rifle with an airburst grenade launcher.
One thing this gun lacks is possibly a thermal scope, but I imagine it wouldn't be impossible for it to be added on later as there should already be some electronics for the targeting computer for the 20mm grenades.
The magazine for the grenades seem to be placed in the rear, bull pup style with the main magazine (the standard PLA ones we see in the type 95s) at the front.

At least this shows the PLA is developing and evaluating future small arms, which has been a fear of mine for a while now. The gun may not necessarily enter service, but the PLA is definitely going in the right direction.

I don't usually say this, but good find, challenge.

I think the PLA need improvment in submachine guns... most of the submachine guns the PLA have look very outdated haha but I am no expert, its an opinion.
