Umm what about the British and Australian's in Iraq right now, their using bullpup configuration and is suiting them alright...still dont think bullpup can retain as much precision and accuracy when firing beyond CQB range, standard configured rifle would be more suitable for the frontline infantry...also...

Still dont think the Type 95 LMG would have an even distrubted weight with the rear being extremely heavey especially with the 75 round drum...through all pictures ive seen i cannot visually identify are stock flip tab that helps the rifle to lay on the shooters shoulders like other nations have...

Some questions for our small weapons experts:

1. What are the current prices for the export versions (NATO ammo) of type 95?

2. What is the equivalent price tag for the PLA version of type 95/03 in RMB?

I haven't seen figures for the Type 95. The export version of the 95, the 97, is available in Canada and you can probably find the price for it online. For comparison, the PAP prices for Type 59-II is 638 RMB, Type 81-I is 838 RMB, Type 88 sniper is 9762 RMB.

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

Thanks for your info, dear Red Mercury.

Recently I have read something about Type 97 having been tested by a canadian(?) weapons/rifle magazine. Are there more tests of the rifle by western mags? What marks did type 97 get?

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

I don't think China is exporting the Type 95. I think China is exporting the Type 97, a modified Type 95. In Canada, the Type 97 costs ~1500 in Canadian dollars. However, the US is not happy with this, so Canada may stop this export or the export is only tentative or limited.

The Type 97 is different than the Type 95, so the Type 97's performance cannot be compared to the Type 95. The Type 97 uses NATO's standard round and it looks like it has a different material for the rifle's casing. I don't know if the internals are the same.

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

Internals are likely very similar to save costs of redesigning the whole thing. However, it probably isn't a great idea to judge type 95 using type 97 performance since the difference in ammunition type is pretty important. Also, take the retail cost with a grain of salt, retail does not imply production cost. 1500 Canadian would be more than the type-88 sniper's cost in 2005 RMB.

As for an article on the type 95 by western media, there is an article by Timothy G. Yan (aka Section8) in Guns and Ammo (? if I recall).

I disagree.. having shot the SAR21, M4 and M-16 variants. The SAR21 and SA80 are freaking accurate beyond 300m, and have very low recoil. Unlike AUG, SA80 and TAR21.. SAR21 is a very well balanced rifle, though heavier.. but not as heavy as the SA80.

I have a low opinion on TAR21 though.. the muzzle kicked high with every single shot and required target acquisition for each shot.. but every light.. the internal assemble seems filmsy... the balance sucks.

Re: Type 95 assault rifle

By the looks of the video in you tube, the guy(canadian) is firing the type 97 with realtive low recoil. This may be due to training. All he complains about the gun is the design and way of holding it.

About the only good thing that can be said about the British rifle is it's accuracy. every thing else well  and the AUG is pretty good.

The LMG is a joke mounting a drum under your arm is going to be a pain in the ass. better to go with a SAW like a lightened version of the QJY88.

The Type 97 (Or the QBZ-97) is no other thing than the export designation Type 95 (Or QBZ-95) with 5.56mm rounds instead of the chinese 5.8mm rds so the countries have to change all their ammo stocks
