I like to give my greetings to all of you that are in work or studying in gollege level, becouse it is your fest and holiday:china:
I dont know traditions in other parts of the world, but in here, we eat wiener-saucaces , donauts (and in previous nigth, get completely wasted:D )and everyone that has graduated from high-shcool wears his/hers white student-cap. Also tradeunions and working class movment helds parade and their leaders gives traditional 1st of may speeches that sets the political guidelines for the next year.

But how about in other nations?

May Day is not a hoilday in the USA. I do know that some people celebrate the day.

1 may is "day of work" here. Unions traditionally hold rallies throuout the country to communicate the wants of the working class people.
The night from 30 april to 1 may is the walpurgis night. A really popular chance to celebrate (and probably get wasted as well) the beginning of the warm period of the year. Dance into the may, sometime around traditional may trees. (Actually the last month was already around 5° too warm and it hardly has rained anywhere, if at all)

In most countries "May Day" is "Labour Day" and has associations unionism or communism. In China this is actually extended to a whole "Golden week" of vacation. A bad time to travel in China, since trains are all booked and Beijing is packed.

As Golly mentioned, in Finland it's more of a student day. Massive drinking on the night before, and a picnic on May 1st itself.

Here's a photo from Kaivopuisto in Helsinki from this afternoon. Lots of fun, thousands of students, ex-students, and future students. Very Finnish.

In the US today there have been protest and marches by illegal aliens demanding rights...Can you believe that?

Popeye: depends on what kind of rights they're looking for.

If you're talking about labour rights, it makes little sense to give them less than legal workers, since that would make employers favour them over people who are in the country legally. For example if you have to pay overtime to legal workers, but not to illegals, then it becomes more attractive to hire illegals.

May Day, May Day!
OK, got that out of the system.

Don't know about IB, but AP gets degraded every year......Not my idea of Advanced Placement.

Labour Day here is when Asian schools start their year.....

But yes, those illegals have guts to come out. (And I stand with Popeye here.)
Don't know what happen down at LA, but those policemen was probably practicing their tradition...... Kind of a shame.......
