Doesn`t appear to be a laser gun, you may be looking at a proto type of a new forward observation vehicle for artillery and aircraft.

Indeed. Perhaps with optics for Krasnopol or HJ-10.
I see three antenna, and what looks like an APU on an APC chassis those combine to mean signifigant communications gear. Add in the optics and it looks like a artillery/airstrike control/spotting platform. probalby with thermal and laser giving the PLA air/artillery all weather day/night target designation capability.
if my guess is right one thing I dont like is the fact that the pod doe snot look like it telescopes. while high enough to sheild the veihicle under some circumstances the US FIT-V's hammrhead designs seems to be superior for taking up hull down posistions.

Maybe it was China's secret weapon if they had to use it in the 1960s~1970s?
i remember decade ago, US army has similiar program,forward base artillery spotter,the antire optic/laser/IR imaging is mounted in hyrdrulic mast,the laser range finder could also use as laser designator for copperhead,or laser guide bomb.the entire equipment is mounted on M-113 chassic.
Thats the FIST-V and they still have them.
Is it possible that the Chinese governmetn doesnt want it online? hmmm be careful. Speaking of Laser, it is a laser dazzling not a "laser weapon," only damage the optics nothing else.
