very nice pics! which event was this?
During Gen. Pace's 4-day official trip to China, he visited 116 Mechanised Infantry Division of 39 Group Army which is one of the most elite PLA unit equipping with Type 99 MBT. Unfortunately because of the elevation of Iran nuclear crisis Gen. Pace has been taken hostage by PLA to prevent US precision strike against Chinese embassy in Teheran like the one happened in Yugoslavia 1999.:nono:

MXIONG and CROBATO, Where did you get the pictures?

Fishhead - PLA have seen the M1A1 - many times. They have seen the new Stryker as well.

Does anybody know about the counter measure devices used on the Type 98, also how much of the technology was transferred to the AL KHALID.

Thank you for your response.

Then which one has better technology over the other one, also I noticed that both are larger over Russian T-80 and T-90 tanks which should fix the auto loader issue in regards to projectile length.

Considering that Al Khalid is based on the Type-90, whose failure to fulfill Chinese requirements resulted in the development of ZTZ-99, I would say that ZTZ-99 is more advanced.

Both tanks have a lot of room for improvements. As it stands, it seems that AK has better FCS system as well battle management solution. It seems to me that the Chinese are taking their time as any land-based conflict involving large tank engagements is unlikely. I'm sure they'll eventually have a very capable FCS and BMS solution.

As far as projectile length that's used in AK I have never heard about any difference compared to standard 125 mm ammo.
It's the same auto-loader as the original Type 90II subject to the same limitations.

Reportedly there was a 4th AK prototype utilizing a 120 mm gun and western engine for export only. I'm surprised Pakistan didn't go for it if they had access to the tech.
Anyways, they might just put Type 98 turret on AK, who knows?
