Re: New JF-17/FC-1 thread

There are 4 prototypes with 3 flying and 1 grounded for stress test. That is standard. The two that are in PAkistan are half of the entire JF-17 in existance. They are prototype 3 and 4.

The FC-1/JF-17 is powered by one Russian-made RD-93 turbofan rated 49.4kN dry or 81.4kN with afterburning. China has reportedly imported five RD-93s from Russia to power the prototypes, but agreement of further purchase and re-export of the engine in together with the fighter aircraft has yet been reached. China may seek to power the aircraft with an indigenously-developed powerplant.

Unless the WS-10 engine is fitted, the JF-17 production is at the mercy of Russian foreing policy. Russia has no problem of exporting its engines to China, they power the J-10. It is the re-exporting its engine to a third party (Pakistan or other) that they have a problem with.

The JF-17 is not yet operational on any frontline squadron. The ones in Pakistan are for the March 23 parade and test.

Maybe you haven heard WS-13( Aka RE of RD-93 )? Go to AVIC website, they have mention repeatly of developing WS-13... As Pakistan,China and I say "Engines is not an issue". You can still live in yr illusion and hoping JF-17 will not make it.

Why would I have something against the JF-17? Its a good low cost aircraft. It just that its development is contigent upon Russian foreign policy. This is a similar problem with multi-national weapons development. You can't satisfy every body. Look at the Horizon Frigate and Eurofighter, at least one nation dropped out. With the J-10, do you still think the PLAAF wants this aircraft? They might be forced to buy it for political reasons. Those just highlights the problems with joint developments. The JF-17 has those problems, and is further complicated by the fact that it uses Russian engines. Russian Engines are contingent upon Russian foreign policy.

You need to calm down.

actually there is very strong speculation that the two in Pakistan are not Pt4 and 6, but new builts with a new set of avionics.

BTW, prototype 3 should be a ground static test airframe.

I am very calm and stop using such tatic to try to claim you are more rational by claiming I am provoked and hot(in what way,am I hot?)! I seen too many of such low tricks.

I am providing facts and words from AVIC side and Chief of Air Force of Pakistan and President of Pakistan states that ' Engine is not an issue!' Don't tell me those persons words don't carry any weight? From new and events evolve ,it clearly fits what they mention and everything is in schedule.. AVIC stated very clearly the expected schedule and ongoing events, all materialise and no delay. It clearly indicate everything is going well!

By the way, remember to enjoy the video clip of tomorrow fly over of JF-17 :china:

That's the 20 million dollar question. The 2 that arrive are the prototypes for PAF assessment. Its not yet in service. Russia does not want this aircraft to compete with its Migs and Sukhoi's in the low end fighter market. India also has a multi-billion dollar leverage on them.

You sure about that? I've been hearing otherwise that these aren't prototype aircraft and that the PAF will get around eight more sometime later.

Both are production machines as confirmed by Pshamim and others. Other machines will be delivered by the end of april or around that time.

P.S: That last picture is the best i have seen. I wish i could get a better resolution bitmap.

Sorry I can't quote the oringinal source, but some "insiders" said that those 2 are part of mass production, more will be delivered to Pakistan, within this year, the total number should be around 20.
BTW, saying engines are problem has been a joke in China defence forum

hmm, while I do believe the engine issue is not going to be a problem, there is no reason for some of you to use the tone you are using. As for around 20 delivered this year, I think you need to check your sources, because Musharraff himself said 8 JF-17s this year. On top of that, while some engines were delivered last year, the engines for this year have not been delivered. By breaking the terms of contract, India could pressure Russia into not delivering any engines.
