The United States is pledging $100 million in aid to help China and other countries dealing with the coronavirus outbreak, according to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“This commitment — along with hundreds of millions generously donated by the American private sector — demonstrates strong U.S. leadership in response to the outbreak,” Pompeo said in a statement.

Pompeo said the aid would be met through existing funds “both directly and through multilateral organizations.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been asking member countries for donations to bolster response efforts after tapping $9 million from its contingency fund for emergencies.

Last week, the State Department helped arrange transportation to China for almost 18 tons of medical supplies.

President Trump on Thursday spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping about the outbreak and expressed confidence in the country’s “strength and resilience in confronting the challenge of the 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak,” a White House spokesman said in a statement.

In a series of tweets Friday, Trump described Xi as “strong, sharp and powerfully focused on leading the counterattack” against the virus and predicted the outcome would be “very successful.”

Discussion is about the US government not private companies or non-profit or private citizens. The US government hasn't given any aid to China at that time. Other countries have already sent aid to China a couple weeks ago. To give credit where credit is due, Trump and Pompeo have no right to take credits when no US government aid was sent to China at that time.

The US is being brazenly disingenuous with its $100m claim. They keep name dropping China, but are careful to always add that that money is for all countries affected.

What more, that’s likely the entire global budget the White House has allocated, which is why China hasn’t seen a penny of it yet - they are saving that for when their friends and allies need it.

Did coronavirus originate in Chinese government laboratory? Scientists believe killer disease may have begun in research facility 300 yards from Wuhan wet fish market
  • Beijing-sponsored South China University of Technology concludes that 'the killer coronavirus probably originated from a laboratory in Wuhan'
  • It points to research on bats and respiratory diseases carried by the animals at the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and the Wuhan Institute of Virology
  • WCDC is just 300 yards from the seafood market and is adjacent to the hospital

University of Technology says that the Wuhan Center for Disease Control (WHCDC) could have spawned the contagion in Hubei province.

'The possible origins of 2019-nCoV coronavirus,' penned by scholars Botao Xiao and Lei Xiao claims the WHCDC kept disease-ridden animals in laboratories, including 605 bats.

It also mentions that bats - which are linked to coronavirus - once attacked a researcher and 'blood of bat was on his skin.'

The report says: 'Genome sequences from patients were 96% or 89% identical to the Bat CoV ZC45 coronavirus originally found in Rhinolophus affinis (intermediate horseshoe bat).'

It describes how the only native bats are found around 600 miles away from the Wuhan seafood market and that the probability of bats flying from Yunnan and Zhejiang provinces was minimal.

In addition there is little to suggest the local populace eat the bats as evidenced by testimonies of 31 residents and 28 visitors.

Instead the authors point to research being carried out withing a few hundred yards at the WHCDC.

One of the researchers at the WHCDC described quarantining himself for two weeks after a bat's blood got on his skin, according to the report. That same man also quarantined himself after a bat urinated on him...... to read more

Saw a similar article from news.com suggesting two Chinese researchers are allegedly presenting the theory that the virus could have somehow accidentally escaped from a med research facility in Wuhan which does indeed hold many coronavirus specimens? Although these ideas and other conspiracy theories like bioweapons have not been given any attention or credit by reputable organisations or individuals. Because of this, I'd rather believe such things are unlikely. They even describe how the alleged doctors who got bat urine and blood splattered on them, quarantined themselves for 2 weeks. More likely embellished news. The primary sources themselves suggest this is only a theory.

One Bay Area nonprofit is stepping up to donate a stockpile of 1.8 million procedure masks sitting in MedShare's San Leandro warehouse.

After fires and volcanic eruptions around the world, MedShare had them ready to donate to the next big disaster, and they say that disaster is coronavirus. They are also ready to ship 200,000 plastic isolation gowns.

"We originally had a flight out of Oakland but it got rerouted out of Chicago," Eric Talbert, MedShare's Western Regional Director said. "Thanks to folks at the UPS Foundation, they have a direct flight from Chicago into Shanghai. Once they're on the ground in Shanghai we have three distribution partners who will get them into the hands of people who need them. "

We were talking about aid from the US government not private companies or regular people. Pompeo and the US media claimed that US has sent aid to China and it would be up to $100 million. The truth is the $100 million is earmarked for fighting Novel Coronavirus and future assistance to other countries. China hasn't received any government to government aid from the US yet.

For all we know, 99 million of that 100 million went into NED and 5Eyes for their fight.
I not sure if the fight on covid19 or on the streets of Hong Kong to aid the protests and burnings there against measures to combat covid19 in HK.
